Which anti virus program should I use? - PeachParts Mercedes-Benz Forum

I need to update my Norton subscription soon. I could do that, as the program has worked with out failure for me. I suscribe to comcast high speed service though, they offer Mcafie servie at no extra cost. A friend of mine runs this though, and I find that their computer which is very similar to mine runs slower. I was wondering if that was becase their computer was not fully protected from spyware by Mcafie? What option would you choose? Thanks for any information.

i use free AVG.. it's decent.. i also scan my computer at pcpitstop once in a while.. mcafie and norton suck.. i dumped them after they let in so much crap that my HD crashed..

I used PC-illin for a while, and then I just stopped altogether with them. Currently, I just use the mcaffee free from comcast on my computer. It does a decent job, but the trick is to close those connections that let viruses in. Use a good browser like firefox, an antispy program like ad-aware in conjunction with ms-antispy, and then a good antivirus (like mcaffee). You will not see any viruses for a while.

Also, virus scanning programs are not supposed to remove spyware. They are to remove the viruses on your computer. You need a good anti-spy program to get rid of adware and spyware.

And I do not notice any issues with speed on my computer. I run a dual core setup, 2 gigs of memory, all watercooled with dual 7800's in SLi. It is a nice setup, but it still gets its ass kicked by the parents mac.

I use AVG because the price is right and it doesn't bog the system down.

You can always try the McAfee since it is available to you. It works well since there are constant updates for the system hence the slowness. If it isn't effective and or bogging your machine down you can always renew your Norton AV at anytime....they're always happy to accept payment.

Use AVG and back it up with the online scan engines available on the web, in the realm of virus scanning redundancy is good.

or get a mac.

avg in wondows

, and clamav in linux

(even though clam scans for wondows viruses)

i use AVG, spybot, spyware dr and ad aware.

you cant have enough anti spyware/ virus stuff. and some are only good at certain things.

you can go to pcworld.com and find free stff there. click on downloads, then antispyware then after selecting, click on anti virus and select there too.

some products are trial, some are buy only, some are free. the free ones are usually denoted as free or shareware.
