2006 Auto Show

Today we went to the local annual auto show and I'm assuming everyone else is having their own auto shows in their cities too this time of year. Did anyone see anything particularly exciting? I didn't. I mean most cars were ok, but just about everything was leaving me cold. It seems like the trend is toward more edgy designs with ever larger dashboards. Of particular interest to me were MB's, VW's, Hondas and to some extent the Corvette and Viper, though those are not new this year. MB has some new offerings like the CLS and the new S-class, and the CDI was there too. I still like my W210 better than all of those. The new Jetta is ok, better and bigger than the previous one, but still not particularly exciting. Interestingly, VW apparently made the new Passat smaller and very similar to the Jetta. The new Civics look good from the outside, but the interior is a bit crazy. I'd say I still prefer the previous generation. The C6 Corvette's rear is too sharp IMO, though the front looks good and more like a Ferrari. As for the Viper, it looks more like a Mazda now. I much prefer the bulkiness and muscularity of the older style. What did everyone else think?

I look forward to the NY auto show every year. Usually I am only interested in the high end stuff, the middle of the road stuff is so boring. I remember last year while checking out the new 7 series BMW I noticed that the doors were worn out. Lots of traffic, they needed to be slammed. However walking over to the MB both I noticed the doors on an E55 with probably more traffic were still working perfectly.

Yeah, I'm sure those would be more interesting. Did anyone go to one of them?
