Anyone watch GRIZZLY MAN on Discovery?

What a ****in *******! This guy was a fag. I think the bear that ate him only went after him because his voice was annoying the hell out of him. The bear probably spit him out in disgust. This guy truly deserved to be eaten.

I only caught part of it, but I was wondering if he did get eaten. The guy was nuts. I couldn't believe that he was able to get that close and film it too!

I know he was very bitter. He was swearing every other word. Maybe the bears didnt like his language!

I just did a search for "grizzly man" on google and realize that he was the one that had gotten mauled and eaten along with his girlfriend awhile back.

The idiot got what he deserved.

Timothy Treadwell (not even his real name) was a liar, drug addict and fraud. He lied about being from Australia (born/raised in New York/New Jersey), going so far as to fake his accent. He bilked hundreds of thousands from Hollywood elitists for his "non-profit" organization, even though no such organization was ever registered with the IRS.

Any wildlife biologist worth a nickle will tell you his methods were worthless, and his actions harmed the very creatures he claimed to be fighting for.

More info...

That may be true, but he didn't fake being up close to those bears. That was unbelievable.

I agreed with the wildlife expert they interviewed who said that Treadwell disrespected the bears by trying to gain their trust. Being trustful of humans is not conducive to a bear's health or longevity.

I saw it at the theater a month or so ago. The guy Treadwell had some serious problems all right. Amazing story though.

I like the film-maker, Werner Herzog. He's a pretty trippy guy himself. Has made some amazing films.

Some worth checking out:

Fitzcarraldo (sp) about a guy (true story) who hauls a riverboat over a hill in the amazon to get to branch of the river that is inaccessible because of falls. He needed the boat to exploit the area's rubber trees. They actually hauled a boat over the hill, only it weighed, I forget, about 5 times as much as the original. The film about the making of the film is almost as good.

Aguirre, Wrath of God: made for about 1/2 a $million, about a crazed conquistador in South America, starring the wild Klaus Kinski, father of Natasha, and also star of Fitzcarraldo and Herzog's "Nosferratu," maybe the only film that ever made me awake in a cold sweat the night after I saw it.

The Mystery of Kasper Hauser: about the semi-famous boy, discovered at about 16 years old, who had been locked in a cellar all his life.

Perhaps unbelievable that anyone could be that stupid...but very believable that he got away with it as long as he did.

Katmai National Park, where his antics were photographed, is a world-renowned bear viewing area. The bears have become very accustomed to human presence, as thousands of people visit every year to see them. Additionally, there are tons of bears, and the food supply from the massive salmon runs is plentiful. As such, they've become far more socialized and less aggressive than bears in remote areas that don't receive the same protections as a National Park.

To add insult to injury - when this fruit loop and his girlfriend were killed, the park rangers were forced to kill two bears while attempting to retrieve their remains.

The bear that ate him was probably a bear from a more inland area, of a group that would come to the area he photographed later in the season. Treadwell stayed longer than normal, and the bear in question was, they're pretty certain, a leaner, hungrier bear than the ones he was able to photograph w/o incident.

The ranger who discovered their remains said he got the feeling he was being stalked during the brief time he was checking the scene out.

There's some dispute on the "out of town" bear...from what I've read, nobody knows for sure. It's certainly plausible, given the time of year he was eaten.

Me thinks, he just ran into a bear with a more refined palate. Perhaps, a sophisticated and worldly critter who just happened to have a fondness for nuts with his salmon...
