Need your advice
 

Hello everyone,

I am southern California resident and have to move to NY Brooklyn to join in a hospital for residency training starting in July'06. I currently own a MB 1990 190E 2.6 5-Speed and a toyota camry.

I guess it will be difficult for me to maintain 2 cars particularly in Brooklyn area, moreover I doubt I will have time to take care and drive my favorite benz. The 190E 2.6 5-Speed is in great condition and is a rare find. Since my wife can't drive manual I am planning to ship the camry to NY. Can any one plz suggest me how to ship a car from CA to NY in a cost efective way.

In 3 years when I finish my residency, I am planning to buy a 1998/99 w140 S500. Now what to do with my current benz? Shall I sell it and move on (I love the car) or leave it with some friend or take it to NY and expose it to salty winter snow. Plz advice what you would do in such a situation.

I'm guessing your car has no rust. If you are going to sell it, it might make sense to drive it to NY and sell it there. There aren't too many cars in the northeast with no rust, so I'm thinking the price ought to be better.

Check out car transport companies that use 'drive-a-way'. This is where people who want ot go to NY from Calif. will drive your car. My wife and I used it a number of times when we came back into the country to get from NY to Tex. to Col. to Calif. My wife also drove a 280sl from Calif. to NY in 1971 on her way to Europe. I don't know if the system still exists, liability may have killed it, but you might look around for it.

Finding parking in Brooklyn can be difficult, and the NY style of driving/ parking will take it's toll on your cars. Garages are extortionately expensive.

Most people out here do well without owning a vehicle. Trains and busses go pretty much everywhere you need to go, 24/7.

I used to live in NYC--Queens and Brooklyn. You probably will have no need of a car. If you want to keep one, find a garage at the end of one of the subway or train routes. Keeping one on the street is too much trouble. If you do this, rust should not be a significant issue.

Don't even bother bringing a car. You won't need one, and it will get beat to hell and be expensive to keep.

If you want to sell your MB bring it to this coast. Rust free CA cars can comand a premium on price.
