CD Manuals
I have a new PC and just discovered my 124 CD manual does not support WinXP.
Anybody else run into this? Help greatly appreciated.

version of pdf viewer
Scott,
I had a set of 126 CD manuals. They needed a specific version of the Adobe PDF viewer, or web add-in to view PDF files ( and checked for the specific file). It was included with the CD for the 126 stuff, but you had to manually install. Hope it's that simple. Chuck |

Here is some more info. The old machine the CD ran on was Win98, no problems. When I attempted to run the CD on this machine the first error I received was that it didn't recognize the browser and that I should upgrade. I'm using IE 6. Can't get any newer than that.
Next I attempted to install Shockwave. The installer couldn't locate the directory and advised it cold complete the installation but it may not run correctly. That's when I exited. It doesn't surprise me that it runs on Win2k since it is based off of NT 4.0 which supports the CD.

The good news is that I can read the literature. I just can't get the cool intro and menus.

I had problems a while back when I upgraded to Adobe 5.5 Then had to manually type "matrix" into the pathway, e.g. file:///e:/program/matrix.htm
That fixed all my loading problems. |

Thanks Carson that did the trick!
To all many thanks for the input. FWIW Adobe 7 Reader will display the documents fine.

I had the same problem (on several different computers). The W124 CD is set up to run on 3.0 and even includes it on the disc. The basic fix I have used is to install Adobe 3.0 from the service disc and use it for that CD. This results in two versions of Adobe on the same PC, 3.0 and 5.0, but it's always worked for me.

Yeah, Cap'n I had the same problem with the old Win98 machine and did the same thing you did. At that time I had Adobe 6, but the CD wouldn't recognize it. Oddly enough Carson's solution did the trick and I'm using Adobe7 with no problems. The only thing that's missing is the really cool intro which is not a necessity.
Again many thanks to Carson!
