Pella Windows...
I'll spare you all the loooooooooooong story about my junk Pella windows and door battle I've been fighting with Pella over. I'm more interested in hearing if others here have anything to share on the topic...
Here's the link to a guy that is having many of the same problems that I'm having. Wait until you read how Pella treats people, and trust me. This is ALLLLLL true!!!! http://www.rjhiggins.com/pella.htm (Yes, the rest of the house will be done in Andersen.) |

First I am not trying to defend Pella's actions, I am just throwing out some ideas to maybe explain their actions.
I used to install Pella windows and do remodeling work. I was always amazed with Pella's windows. Window rot and failure isn't always due to the window itself. Which may be why Pella is being a stick in the mud. If the siding or water barrier between the plywood and the siding is installed incorrectly than water can get into places it shouldn't, especially if the window is on the side of the house that gets all the rain and wind. Wind can drive water into funny places as well. Also if the window was install improperly it will leak. And in my experience there are a lot of bogus window installers out there, although Pella installers have to be certified so that may not be the case for you. You may have also gotten a bad window. How many thousands of windows do they install every year. Probablity says a few are bound to be bad. Something else, if you have done anything to the window to fix it, Pella may legally be able to deny the warrenty. The photos in the link above look like he put spray foam on the window to seal them up again. Sorry to hear about your experience with Pella, but I don't blame you for switching brands.

The windows were 100% installed to spec. If they try to say it was installation error, they will have total balls. Especially since it is the also around the sash. The sah is a sealed unit... how could that part be installation error?

Am I looking at the duct tape on the bottom of the window on the right in the first pic?

http://www.propertytaxtalk.com/talk/viewforum.php?f=4 I am totally amazed at all the mail I've gotten on this topic!!! I couldn't find anything bad about Andersen... at least not as easily as I could about Pella!!!! Read my tale and let me know what you think. I'm open to any ideas on how to fix this crap. Thanks again, Pete |

I installed it. To date, I have probably installed 80 windows and never had a single problem. The windows were installed to spec. |

I am not saying you installed it incorrectly, but Pella can't tell if you did or not unless they come out and look at it, and it's unfortunate that they won'd come and look at it without charging you. And I don't know if they will put a warrenty that covers as much on a window that wasn't installed by a certified installer, but I don't know.

From what I'm reading, Pella has known about this rot/corrosion problem for years, and blames the install. If they can't get away with blaming the install the inflate the the "labor" charge to offset the window. Total crap, but I hope I'll be able to show these people that I'm not going to tolerate their crap. In a perfect world I'd like the windows torn out, and replaced with problem free Andersen's but at this point I would settle for the windows I bought to perform as sold. |
