Crown Molding... but with a mod.

Ok. If any of you folks are into trim work and wood-working I have a question.

Crown molding... (or something that I would like to look like crown molding) Except with this job the wall and ceiling is not at a 90 degree angle like normal. What we have here is a finished attic installation where the angle is computed where the rafter meets the collar ties. In this case it is 135 degrees. I would like to have something that looks like crown molding or any some-what "finished) for this.

Any ideas?

Sounds like a project!

How would it look if you installed the crown as normal, and then beveled a piece of trim to fit across the top, sealing it off? Could you install some recess lighting in the open space?

I would just relief cut the backside of the edge that will go against your " ceiling", until the face meets the ceiling. Much like a coping cut, but done the full length.

I think crown molding would be tough to fit in your situation. I think I would try using a moulding that looked something like this



I would put the trim on the wall flat so that the large end is up. Cut along the red line to match the angle of the ceiling.

Remember too you can assemble the trim from several pieces placed together.

Look carefully at a lot of door, floor and cove trim and you'll find it's really several pieces
