Deer whistles

Do they really work?

IMO no. Certainly they hear the car soon enough and don't move. I have shot scores of deer, only to have the one next to the one I dropped just stand there.

On the slim chance they may work a little, I would rather not have the false confidence and just drive more carefully.

Placement of the whistle is extremely critical. The sound comes out the back of the whistle not the front. If you place it on your bumper and your car body is behind it will not work. I never hit a deer in a vehicle with a whistle. Here is a tidbit to think about. I mounted a whistle on top of my Isuzu Trooper in front of luggage rack. When living in Texas I would go to work on this very long and straight F&M (country) road. There was usually a large flock of sheep at one section of this highway. When I topped this hill approximately 1 mile from them, they would run to the other side of the field, but only when I drove the vehicle with the whistle.

We fix literally tons of cars that hit deer with the deer whistles firmly attached to the bumpers.

The guy that drives the newspaper delivery truck from the "city" 60 miles away had never hit a deer. Keep in mind he's driving at like 3 in the morning over some BACK roads. He installed two whistles and has hit three since. I'd have to say that they work pretty good!

Also, fwiw, ANY road kill should be left for the buzzards. The trauma makes the meat undesirable if not downright poisonous.

Cooked with chili peppers and beans, it tastes just like a can of Austex.

Deer whistles are directional!

Read the instructions carefully, if installed backwards they attract the deer!

And if I grind the polarized prong down on the plug of my toaster then my bread will turn to dough.

I forgot to mention that I have a body shop client that had told me the same thing.
