So what if they kill him and go beat off? Does that hurt you or me? If they are willing to do it for no cost to the taxpayers and it gets their rocks off, I don't see the problem. Maybe we can have a volunteer execution squad in future. Cut out the medical hacks who cannot or will not do this in future.

I think bullets end life faster than beheading. When Mary Queen of Scots was executed in the 16th century, it was recorded that her lips continued to move for fifteen minutes after her head had been detached from her body. Maybe it's a rigamortis thing, but I suppose you'd have to have your head chopped off to know for sure...
I went to London when I was in fourth grade and I'm pretty sure I remember someone at the Tower of London talking about an execution that took 60+ chops...sounds unrealistic, but I'm pretty sure that's what the guy said. Those Brits sure knew how to make a gruesome show of things; it wouldn't be surprising if someone ordered a very dull axe to be used.

I hate to say it, but the web cast videos of the beheadings (I watched two ) lead me to believe that death comes pretty quick. When the blood drains out of the brain, unconsciousness comes quickly. The only slow part of those barbaric acts was the sawing of flesh with the knife.
The guillotine eliminates that. I think we're trying to make it too palitable. If we're going to have the DP, and in some cases, even ol' liburl Berkeley me is in favor of it -- McVeigh, Bundy, and this Morales character, for example -- let's not be squeamish. Punishment usually hurts a bit. Another recent California execution, Clarence Ray Allen -- he got a lot of press on account of being the oldest or almost oldest ever put to death -- made me rethink the notion of life imprisonment being good enough because he managed to arrange and finance 2, maybe 3 murders while already in prison for life. He had money and family on the outside and he recruited a cell mate who was about to be released to kill all of the witnesses to the murders he was already up on so he could perhaps prevail in a retrial. The creep killed 3 people, I believe ages 27, 21, and 17 (might be wrong but close), the two youngest just because they were there when he went to get the older guy, one of the witnesses. They caught the slime-weasel with a list of names Allen had given him.

I say just put 'em in a room full of their victims' friends & family, all with a baseball bat. If the perp can make it out alive, he/she can go free.
