We've had some whitetails in the backyard as well, they do a good job of trimming my cedar hedge up to about 5'.

I was mowing the lawn when I saw this guy, around noon, bright sunlight, just strolling through my garden. Managed to snap him and my 300E...thanksgiving anyone?

I had never seen a wild turkey before, they were re-introduced into our area a few years ago by hunters I think. Apparently, they've been quite successful!

Jayzus, Mike! A bit piquant, wot?

I've eaten armadilloes. they're easy to dress and like a pig, lots of fat. Having eaten them several ways I recommend removing the fat no matter how you prepare the beast.

Oh, and my fingers haven't fallen-off.

Though we live in the city limit, spotting wildlife is becoming a common occurance. I have seen three deer running on our block in as many months and a wild turkey grazing on the side of the road. Getting interesting around here.

If it is cooks right it should be like roast beef. Snapping Turtles have 5 different meats in them and the body meat is yummy and sought after.

The problem you’ll find, (like most of the folks around here have) is that you can’t shoot and eat them fast enough. Just when you think you have them under control or that they’ve moved on , you wake up and your back yard looks like a testing ground for Troy-Bilt, and your feeder is over on it’s side.
Hence the wide stance and wire on ours.
Have fun - But I havent heard of anyone winning the hog battle yet.
Absolutely...you can put a little pressure on them, they move off for a week or so, then one day you wake up and discover p-p-p-Porky and his p-p-p-pals have disked an a couple acres in your hay pasture...and it didn't need disking.

There are so damned many hogs here now, hunting is not even considered control and mass trapping barely makes a dent in the population. My neighbor to the south trapped 34 in one pen and had them back the next WEEK.

Smart and brazen too...on the way to farm last Friday night, we stopped for a bag of ice in Rockdale. when I got back in the car and flipped on the lights, they illuminated an empty lot next to the 'stop-n-rob' and I'll be damned if there weren't a couple of hogs rooting around in that lot, right there in the middle of Rockdale, directly across 79 from the Chevy dealer.

Haven't skinned one but have 'quilled' one in my youth and used the quills for panfish bobbers when fishing with catalpas, yellow jacket larvae or other light baits.

Coon on the half shell, eh? Talk about parasites--that is the wormiest critter next to an amberjack I have ever cut into. The ribs are good grilled, i admit.
