New Landcruiser: no diesel?

I sure like the look of the new Cruiser... enough that if it were offered in a diesel I'd consider making my very first brand-new-vehicle purchase. Oh, that it were so. Why no diesel? Isn't Toyota still manufacturing passenger vehicle diesel engines?

They have never given us a diesel cruiser. Canada got the BJ40 and BJ60 but we got the wrong end of the lollipop.

Yeah... wonder why that is? I see the old ones for sale once in a blue moon, but they never last long. You'd think with the VW TDI success in the states, they'd bring some over and sell them as gas-sippers. It seems to me that would be a hit in the SUV market. I like them for their pedigree... that's a serious vehicle, and the stuff I'm reading in the automotive press indicates that they really like the new ('07) model.
