Let the good time roll!
It's just a matter of hours till I start my annual pilgrimage to Mardi Gras. Just curious if anyone else was atteneding? Going to teach my liver a lesson this year!

W/ a new baby I won't be heading down this year. That and the place I usually stay has been comandeered by FEMA folks. I had some friends come back from a Martin's run yesterday and said the atmosphere was festive, but the stores still aren't stocked up proper, ect....

Bar Association (no pun) has balcony at Bourbon Orleans (800 block) through Fat Tues. Gawd my liver hurts this morning:pirate:

For those of you coming down to The Swamp,

Have fun! I grew up on Bourbon Street ('struth!) back in the days when most of the major parades wound up their route in the French Quarter. At age 9, I thought it cool to be able to hear the parade approaching and have time to run out and see it and to catch the stuff the float-riders threw. It's kind of like interactive street theatre: You yell at the float, "Throw me sumpin', Mistah!" and they toss you beads or cups or doubloons.

As a grownup, I'm over it. I don't drink any more, I don't like fighting for a parking place under normal circumstances, and I hate being in crowds. Like a lot of New Orleans dwellers, I dream of the day when I can afford to leave town for the entire 10-14 days.

But everybody should see Mardi Gras at least once. You'll remember it all your life.
.
