MI Has More Registered Voters Than Voting Population

The US Department of Justice says Michigan has more people registered to vote than it has people of voting age, but State Elections Director Chris Thomas says he's been told the federal government is satisfied with Michigan's response to concerns raised last year. The Detroit News reported Sunday that a number of dead people and non-residents were recorded as voting in Detroit and elsewhere in last Novembers' elections.

Now we know, that's what happened to those cemeteries in NOLA! They've established residency in MI.

Heck, and I thought only Chicago had dead that vote (they elected Kennedy in 1960). I'm glad to see some fine old traditions still are honored in this country. Here in Ky., we have an interesting tradition of what's called "vote hauling". We pay some folks to load up their car with people and drive 'em to the polls. You know, because they can't get there otherwise. Of course in this state that is 70% dry, the bottle seems to magicly appear in a lot of those cars on the way to the polls. Oh, and if those folks can't read (let's not even talk about the illiteracy rate), why someone can go into the booth and help them vote! (actually, we are slowly fixing these things).

Hey, dead people should have the right to vote, too! It's not right to discriminate against them.

So who were they voting for? Usually dead people vote in a close election where they might put one candidate over the top. It seems unlikely to me that they were voting because of the presidential election; Michigan was thought to be a blue state by a pretty wide margin, wasn't it?

Not realy surprising is it?

Michigan; where we vote early and vote often.

Does Michigan have that kind of reputation? This is something I would expect to see in Chicago, Rhode Island, or Louisiana. Maybe I'm ignorant about Michigan but it wouldn't have been high on my list if someone would have asked me yesterday about the most likely places where dead people were registered to vote.
