.
A person would think that a judge appointed by the President of the US of A to the highest court in the land would be held to a much higher standard.

just a thought.

Good point - it's a small issue at best. That it could have an immense impact on the control of congress should be so meaningless to all of us, as to put us to sleep.

Just to clarify my position on this, it is clearly not good to fall asleep in the middle of the proceedings when you are a Supreme Court Justice.

But sometimes justices are not even there for the proceedings; they still read the transcripts and vote. Rehnquist did this in some of the cases that occurred shortly beore his death.

I just don't think this is that big a deal. Maybe she was sick. Presumably she was not out bar-hopping the night before.

And as far as being held to a higher standard due to holding a high office: she is being held to a higher standard, as evidenced by the fact people across the country are talking about her impromptu nap.

I'm glad I wasn't in the national spotlight back when I was in high shool. Or college. Or more recently.

I don't think if it really matters if she was there or not, because she has already made her decision, before the trial began.

Like I said in an earlier post, a Supreme Court Justice *should* stay awake during the proceedings; they do, however, have verbatim transcripts to look at later.

And isn't it worse when a juror falls asleep? Most of the trials I've been at involve murders, child molesters, corrupt cops, and other fairly major things, and at most of those trials at least one juror, and normally more than one, dozed off on one or more occasions. Juries do not get transcripts to look at because they are normally not ready until after the verdict is rendered.
Agreed. I've heard audio recordings of some of that stuff and plenty of the people bringing testimony before the court are somewhat shy of "entertaining." I agree with MedMech that Texas redistricting is a charged topic that ought to demand attention. I can imagine some self-infatuated lawyer, while trying to make the best of his big chance, droning on in tones of self-admiration, however. Good God, having to actually pay attention to some of that crap for hours a day and demonstrate alertness the whole time would be like one of the tasks of Hercules for this simple tradesman.

What need does Thomas have to ask questions? It'll take the rest of the court years to evolve to his lofty status such that they will become aware of their need to urgently petition him for assistance and enlightenment.

No point in waking her up. Her mind was made up before she was appointed.
