Any Guiter Players here?
I play alot of Jazz-fusion, and last week I broke down and ordered a Roland GR-20. For those not in the know, this is a guiter sythesizer setup for a guiter, so that I can play hornes, strings, keys, whatever on my guiter. Anyone on here play with one of these? I got it Friday, and even this morning I had a hard time NOT calling off work. So much fun. I will begin recording tonight.

Man...I used to play but I haven't picked up a guitar in years. Lost all my calouses and all.
My son picked it up and has been playing. Recently got into a band. He has my electric guitar now. My daughter picked up the drums but somehow got a hold of my acoustic. Wonder how that happened?? Put up some demo's here. Danny

I play the git-fiddle, bass, and am learing the banjo.
Do the horns, strings, and keys sound realistic. On some of the synthesizers I have briefly used they don't sound very good. I have never been a big effects guy, but they are sure fun to toy around with. I would love one of the machines that loop rifs. You can be the whole band by yourself, like Kellar Williams.

Funny that you should mention the looper, because I bought a loopstation (boss) about a year ago. Yesterday morning I had a nice sounding jazz run that included a standup bass, piano, drums, and saxaphone. My girlfriend thought it was a CD. Kinda nice for writing and producing. Anyway, most of the sounds sound pretty real. Everything sounds really good, but you have to tweek your playing style and preamp effects to get some of them to sound "perfect". I've never really been an effects kinda guy, either. I'm all about playing clean, maybe some slight OD. The standup and fretless bass patches sound the most realistic of all. And by the way, my Double-Decker Double-Wide always blairs Keller. String Cheese?

I haven't played in 20 years but I still have 2 Martin acoustics, a Gibson electric and a Fender electric. Oh and I still have my old Fender Twin-reverb amp that needs new tubes. One day I'll have to spring for some new strings and see how bad I really am!

I have never listened to String Cheese, but I have heard a lot about them. I have heard Keller Play with them on some internet available stuff. I will check the out for sure. Have you ever seen Keller play live? I saw him last summer in Eugene, OR. WOW, he is a killer guitar player, and he does it all on acousic. I have been playing guitar for 12 years and I still don't understand how he makes some of the noise that comes out of that guitar he plays.

Yep, I play in a band.
Gibsons are my main electrics, I have Taylor 310ce acoustic, amps are old Marshalls and a Mesa Boogie Triple Rectifier.

A neat toy for some of the old timers here would be the Line 6 pod. Electric guitar interface for the PC.

I'll throw a wrench in the works here and say that I'm a drummer...
But most of you already knew that. I'm in the process of constructing a "real" website of my own... but in the meantime, here's some myspace pages with more than you ever wanted to know about ME. www.myspace.com/mikemover www.myspace.com/doubledrivemusic www.myspace.com/openskyseparators Mike

However, they make a BASS version of the Pod that is VERY nice.... My old bass player from doubleDrive used one, with his various 4, 5, 8, and 12-string Hamer and Pedulla basses, four 4x10 cabinets, bi-amped with two 2,600-watt Peavey amps. Now THAT was some serious bass tone. The Pod was great for getting consistent levels from the different basses, and for the various chorus and distortion effects he would sometimes use. Mike

My wife and I just play for fun, as it's getting to be about the only way we can have fun anymore We go for folk, gospel, bluegrass, and when I'm sitting up late at night with a couple of Faxe Festboks in me, I'll try my hand at a few Django-esque rhythm swing riffs. I have also tried banjo- kind of neat, but it turns out I'd rather just listen to someone reeaally gooood (John Hartford John Hartford, and of course Fleck- absolutely).
I've got a 1933 Gibson L50, to which I added my own home-made rosewood pickguard with a Bartollini pickup set into it. It's also got a Fishman Arch-top acoustic transducer bridge, so it's really become a three in one guitar. My amp (seldom used any more) is a Pignose G40- all tubes. Dave |
