What is the difference B/W firefox and IE?

GermanStar 03-08-2006 10:55 AM

Yeah, 1.5 has been out for a while. One thing that bugs me about Firefox: it ignores WindowState of your default email client. It heeds WindowSize, but wont open it maximized if you last closed it maximized. I know I'm nitpicking a minor thing, but they still haven't fixed it. If I were still reviewing sofware for Ziff-Davis, I would have bullied them into fixing it by now by mentioning it in a review. :D

I like because it's not MS. I have had very good luck with FF and the ability to give it a personel look!:) I also use the Thunderbird mail program which I find very user friendly. Was told not as prone to the hackers as IE.

I LOVE YOUR CAR!!!! How many miles? I want it!

Anybody have Firefox "hang" ?

This one is doing it on a routine basis now. Probably several times per day. When it happens, a reload won't work. Seems to need six or seven attempts. Sometimes I need to go to an alternate site and return to the site where it originally hung.

Any ideas?

GermanStar 03-08-2006 09:37 PM

Yeah, reinstall XP......

I was really hoping to avoid this huge undertaking.:o

For some time now I have been using Mozilla Firefox (now at v. 1.5.0.1) and have had a rare hang but nothing like what I used to encounter with MS IE. There are a few features I would like to gain but overall I am having good luck with it. Price was certainly right.:D

Nah, I was just kidding, but you do seem to have some OS issues. I've had xp on three machines for a quite a long time now, and no issues. The OS was getting a bit flaky on me on my main machine, so I just restored a ghost image from a year prior to get it back like new. If you do a lot of installs/uninstalls your Registry can grow to an unruly size, but other than that, there are no time-dependent issues that I'm aware of.

I really have not done many installs or uninstalls. I did install and subsequently remove McAfee anti-virus. I'm also sure that it is not completely removed from the registry. Wonder if "registry mechanic" might do the trick on here?

The machine is coming up on three years now and it has noticeably slowed.

Could be a lot of things, including hardware/memory issues. I used to install/uninstall about ten programs per day, and would notice a slowdown after a few months. That isn't your problem. There are a few things you could do that might help a little, but I think a fresh install is your best option. Install a new Windows, don't overwrite, and see if that makes the difference. If it doesn't you can just remove it and go back to the way you had it before. Oh, buy a ghost image utility before you try it.

No, it's not hardware/memory issues. I have very little running in the background and the machine has 512K.

The fresh install is probably the best. I've just not got myself steeled to do it.

Do you know of a step by step procedure for this? I sure don't want to screw it up.

GermanStar 03-08-2006 10:42 PM

Tell you what -- you want to see slow -- try IE7. :(
