I was thinking the same thing.

Mac, I'll give you $500 cash for your car. I'll pay extra if you throw in all your sharp and pointy tools and such.

Thank you, oh wise one.

I forget the exact quote or even where it came from but it sounds about right:

"He who delights in weapons of mass murder will not enter the kingdom of heaven."

Shooting a gun doesn't kill people unless people are down-range of the gun. In the case I linked there were no people involved, though I'll bet some kangaroo mice ***** like a machinegun.

What I'm getting at is this: A weapon can sit somewhere in perfect safety communing with nature. A weapon has no will, no purpose, no thought, no memory and no plan for retirement. Only a creature with a will and knowledge of good and evil can choose evil. A gun has no choice.

Therefore it is evil only if the person pulling the trigger chooses to do evil.

Hey Bot,

Why not bring up the ties that Mercedes Corp. had with the NAZI governemnt? Or simply the fact that they are a mega-corporation - thus evil. Or what about the diesel in the tank, it could be used to make napalm!

See further evidence that CMAC should sell me his bloodstained, evil 300SD. I'll even give him $600 for it.

Oh, I get it. We humans are as wise as God.

If there was truly an enemy advancing on my home, rest assured that I would be only too happy to disperse a little deadly force in their direction. What I can't and won't get comfy with is affection and admiration for high tech devices delivering deadly force for fun and games. It's part of the pitfalls of the military/industrial complex that Ike was wise enough to perceive -- Ike, that week-kneed pacifist.

I know you've made your career (or at least part of it -- I have no idea what your military career involves) around these devices so I don't expect you to get it.

If you decide to kill somebody with your car you can do it. Does your car want to kill people? Is it looking forward to the time it can exact revenge for the times you made it do boneheaded things? Does it want people to live and grow petunias?

A gun (knife, rope, rock, hand, aeroplane) is only as deadly as the will of the person who uses it.

Does a gun give a Kerlian aura of evil that you can sense?

Yes, and plenty of people get so familiar with their guns that they start to imagine them as useful for all sorts of encounters. For example:

San Jose shooting

Huge stink about this case in the Bay area some years back. The shooter, a retired fire captain, thought he was doing the right thing. The law disagreed. Not a happy story.

Get friggin' real. A helicopter mounted gatling gun with tracer bullets is not in the same universe as an auto in the "killing machine" dept. Such things have a place and a use, but entertainment is not a healthy use, IMH,HO.

What is the difference between blasting away at a target from the air and blasting away at a target on a shooting range? Is one or the other (or both) inherently more evil than the other?

There are a number of reasons the helicopter shoot for entertainment bugs me. One is that it's another example of "Oh my god, we've got to keep the flow of oil coming our way becuase we have all these tourist just lining up to employ our services! Helicopters don't run on hummus, you know!"
