What is wrong with this picture?

While I do believe that a good leader does what needs to be done without regard to popularity I don't think it is a positive attribute to someone who is elected.

Bush says his beliefs unshaken by poor poll numbers

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Down in public opinion polls, President George W. Bush said on Friday he realizes he has made some unpopular decisions but that it "comes with the territory" and he will stand by his beliefs.

"I know some would like me to change, but you can't be a good decision-maker if you're trying to please people. You've got to stand on what you believe, that's what you've got to do, if you're going to make decisions that are solid and sound," he said.

During a question-and-answer session with a national newspaper group, Bush became his most animated when talking about the way he handles his job.

A year into his second term, Bush is beset with a job approval rating below 40 percent, with Americans disapproving of his handling of the Iraq war and the U.S. economy.

His support for an Arab company's attempt to take over management of six U.S. seaports, a plan that caused a rebellion among Republicans worried about a security threat, has also caused him to suffer in the polls.

Bush got started on the topic when asked about a Colorado teacher who had been suspended for criticizing his State of the Union speech in January as "Hitleresque."

"Yes, I think people should be allowed to criticize me all they want -- and they do," Bush said to laughter.

He said polls will not cause him to abandon his core beliefs.

"I understand some of the things I've done are unpopular. But that's what comes with the territory. If you're afraid to make decisions and you only worried about, you know, whether or not people in the classroom are going to say nice things about you, you're not leading," he said.

Personally, I don't see anything wrong in the picture. You elect someone to lead, let them lead. If they don't do it the way the majority wants it done, then don't re-elect them. "W" ain't worried about re-election.

I respect a fellow who does what needs to be done, without regard to popularity. However, I would have greater respect if he had the ability to look at his philosophies and strategies and analyze what has not worked and how he might adjust them for the future.

This is a man with a huge ego........a man who cannot admit that he has made any errors in judgment........a man who will not change the course of the ship........even if the radar confirms that there is an iceberg directly in the path of the ship. He cannot see the iceberg because of the fog........and he refused to believe that it is present.

This is why I can't respect him.

I think he will change his tone if he is running for another term. But since he is not, he really can care less.

However, his party would have forced him to make changes if he was running for another term.

Nothing new -- GW has always said that he doesn't feel responsibility toward the electorate, and that his actions will ultimately be exonerated by history and god. That was among a large number of startling statements he shared with Bob Woodward. Nutcake alert!

Nobody ever accused GW of being intelligent. He has bungled just about every issue he's faced. Talk about deceiving the American public, he's a master at that. By the time he's done with his term in office, this country is going to bankrupt, illegal immigrants will be in the majority, the middle class will be reduced to poverty, the domestic labor market will be working for the Chinese and Indians, and gas will cost $5 bucks a gallon. Not to mention Iraq. I don't even want to speculate on that mess.

His father was a good President, alot of common sense, intelligent, and as honest and trustworthy as politicians get.

One of W's few admirable traits is that he will stand up for his principles. I think that's what the founding fathers wanted in a president. What the founders didn't predict, however, is that the country would elect a complete, utter loser to be president. I think they assumed that anyone who can get elected president will have some sense of right and wrong, which is the main thing lacking in W. It's a shame that when we finally get a principled person in the White House, his principles are all screwed up.

Well think back to the college scores Bush made public....you remember the ones Kerry refused to release till after he lost...that showed he had lower scores than Bush did. Makes you wonder why the people who harped about Bushes grades never did the same about Kerry.

Well we all know you have to be good at kissing the right butts to get anywhere in politics....and that applies to all of them...you can't even get on the school board without kissing up. Thats politics.

Nope, never met Kerry or even saw him in person.....I did meet Both the Clintons once however. And I have met W but not Laura in his first term..

The difference is Bush probably cheated or bought his grades. For a man with an ivory league business school degree he speakes like he has a a high school drop-out vocabulary. And how about his Coast Guard service, I guess he was to busy relying on his family's influence to bother with serving his full commitment. At least Kerry volunteered for duty and served his country heroically in Viet Nam.

To think that one person is smarter than another based on grades from 30 years ago is moronic, especially since their grades and test scores were nearly identical. Who gives a rat's ass anyway?
