*****ty neighbor, redux

Literally!!!! So my neighbor, whom is a very nice guy and I get along with the family very well.

He decided out in the blues a month ago utilizing his dog ***** for fertilizer. He has two huge dogs, one is a Great Dane. So you can imagine the size of those turds. He collected them every week and put them all over his flower beds. The stink is so unbearable. I told him the smell is getting into my house. So, guess what he did. He churned them into the mulch and pour lime on it. But the smell, after a couple days, come back.

I want to file a complaint with the Home Owner Association, but I am sure he will know who did it. What am I to do? I couldn't even stay in my own driveway washing my car without gaging from the stink yesterday. I am really lost as what to do. I would imagine it is a health hazard as well, that is why they post signs in Parks for people to clean up after their pets. I have a little dog and I clean up after her all the time. I am actually embarrassed to invite people to come over because as soon as you get out of the car, the stink will knock you flat out.

If you already tried talking to him....you either put up with it or do something..if you file a private nusince complaint he will know its you...if you file a homeowners association complaint he will know its you.

What you CAN hope for is that his uncured manure compost will burn his shrubs then he will take care of it himself....but sure some real lawyers will spell out the options better than I can.

I feel for you..I can imagine what that reeks like.

Well, you told him once and he tried to improve it but it didn't work...so just tell him again that mulching it doesn't work either and you can still smell it...it doesn't appear that he is unwilling to cooperate...

Neighbor's dog had been ****ting on our lawn for months. After asking her repeatedly not to do it and to pick up the ****, with no effect, we called the city and complained. It has now stopped.
I agree, you should talk to the neighbor again. But if that fails, are there any regulations about not fertilizing one's lawn with ****? I'd be surprised if the homeowner's association had enough forethought to build that into their regulations.
Here's another extremely far fetched idea. If you have a gas sniffer, see if it can pick up the odor. I don't know what gasses the **** is giving off, but a sniffer should pick up methane (I think). A little objective rapid beeping sounds might go a long way to convincing your neighbor there's a problem.

u know... im sure you can make something that looks scientific, and goes BEEP BEEP BEEEEEEEEEEEEEPPPPPP

Castrate the owner, shoot the dogs, and bury them in dog crap... Then put THAT in your yard to stew for a while... sound ok? lots easier to do

Talk to the dude, buy him a bag of real fertilizer... and some dog**** bags (cardboard handles, plastic baggies... u know

Tell him that this is a very dangerous thing to do as there are many parasites in dog poop, some of them can be deadly!

high fences make the best neighbors.....

cut the bottom out of a 5 gallon bucket and take it over to his front porch with your morning coffee. Drop trow, sit down and fire...make sure you ring his doorbell, when he comes to the door tell him since he likes the smell of ***** so much he outta enjoy you taking a dump on his front stoop every morning. He'll get the idea, if not a little anti freeze in a dish by the fenceline will get the job done...what a wanker he is

Exactly- carnivore poo doesn't make good fertilizer. If He really wants to use it as fetilizer he should put it into a compost pile and not into the flower beds. If he has a good hot compost pile it won't smell and it will breakdown the poo much quicker. A good compost pile can get up above 100F, and if the pile is maintained correctly there won't be any smell. You might try bringing this up to your neighbor.

Educate him. Dog crap is not good fertilizer. Herbivore crap = recycled plant matter = good fertilizer. Dogs are carnivores. Dog crap can be full of nasty pathogens. Does he have children/do children visit him? He sounds willing to listen, which is a good start. Failing that, you could call the city and complain, I'd imagine a health unit would make him a visit.

Isn't there a Jim Carrey movie in which he has the same problem? He solves it by walking over to his neighbor's lawn with his newspaper in hand. He then drops his pants and takes a dump in the middle of his neighbor's lawn.

Worked for him!

As I mentioned, he is really a decent fellow. It is just every village has an idiot.

I probably will have another talk with him this evening. I am sure when his "perfume" gets any stronger, other neighbors will start complaining. Especially the other neighbor who has little kids playing outside in the evening.

I like the appeal to his protective nature with the pathogens in the poop ploy...that might sink in to him.
