Well from my very limited knowledge of what went on, it seems the student got what he deserved. My highschool does similer things threaten someone outside of school and you never know it may bite you.

People take this "myspace" thing way to seriously and need to chill.

Lets see what happend at my highschool;

When those Anthrax letters were going around a sick student decided it would be funny to get back at a teacher he hated. He sent her a letter with some what powder in it. I don't have any enemy's but this kid was one person who I would call an enemy. He was messed up big time.

Anyway they found out it was him, seized his printer found the letter. He was charged went to jail and left the school. His parents were so shamed they sold the house and moved to another town.

Senior class a couple of years back drew a 50ft+ tall picture of the male genitals on the grass, with gas. Very detailed pick amazing how well it came out considering it was done at night. That got our school in Playboy.

We also have the usually security guards, I think they are up to 4-5 full time. Plus its not uncommen for a few cops to hang around.

I hate teachers. I hate school administrators but I really hate teachers. Fifty years ago a smart woman had two choices (predominantly) for a career path, they went into nursing or teaching. Now they can go to graduate school in medicine, law, business, engineering, accounting and where does that leave the teaching profession? The average GPA and test scores of those getting a masters of teaching is the lowest of any post graduate field.

So some immature kid post something really stupid and even slanderous about a teacher and now they are going to fubar his live and cost him a scholarship? I have more hope for the kid growing up than I do the teacher.

There is no way to joke when making a comment like that.

Seems like young kids having nothing but fun to me. I attended a small high school too with only 14 in my graduating class. If we did something like this, there'd be hell to pay-- but I think it's just kids having fun. They should be allowed to enjoy their senior year!

Do you agree teachers should be having political rants in the classroom instead to teaching the subject they are paid to teach?

Personally more of these teachers need to be held accountible...blogs are one way of this.

Funny how a teacher taped having a 20 minute rant can keep his job after wasting tax dollars.....yet they suspend a kid for speaking his mind OUTSIDE the classroom. I see more liberal indocrination happening in this sort of behaviour.

Fun as long as it's not destructive of property, etc.

Drawing in the grass...they sould have used fertilizer.

But I can't help of thinking of what happened at Columbine HS, and for what it's worth that same kind of thing happened at my HS in 1974.

I have worked in a couple of high schools and know a few teachers. Most of them are well adjusted reasonable people. But, some are really difficult. Human afterall. But the problem is, you just about can't fire a teacher from a public school, unless they've done something really bad. Simply being bad at the job or making poor decisions in the classroom based on emotions isn't enough.

I've seen teachers make judgements about students based not on what the student brings to the situation, but on whether the teacher likes the student. Or is attracted to the student sexually. Very common place, unfortunately.

You think it is okay for a student to make allegations of criminality concerning a teacher's behavior with students? WTF does that have to do with whether the teacher is a liberal, conservative or pinto bean farmer?

who determined if the student was wrong or the teacher....

seems that teachers are no longer required to actually perfom their jobs these days....

Two prime examples of that in the last year alone.

Besides...what the kid says or not outside of school is not the realm of the school. What that teacher does in the classroom on taxpayer time is.

Certain groups think the teacher is entitled to rant all they want.(and defend him doing it)...and try to punish a kid for making it public knowledge.

I've seen lots of criminal teacher behaviour...your average school is an indocrination center....if you don't suck up to a liberal teacher your grades are artificially lowered. Thats criminal. If its in a Highschool or college its the same.

Let start firing teachers for participating in protests.... what those are off school property you say.....I say so was the kids comments. See what I mean.

Perhaps they will start to suspend kids for not watching an approved news program at home next?

I see worse than that kid did on this forum all day long.

So you're reasoning is that if society had not unfortunately opened other career doors for women, we'd be better off?

Plenty of blame to go around, including physically and morally absent parents. They are the ones accountable and should be watching whats going on with their kids' education.

Actually I think you could probably make a pretty compelling argument to support that statement. But no, that wasn't my point. My point is that the profession just isn't what it used to be.

ok well, the assembly was...uhm...harsh

basically if they catch u drinking ur kinda done for
(speaking in activities/sports)

1st offense is a 15day suspension.
2nd offense is a 1 calandar year suspension
3rd offense is a total ban on the activity/sports

thats a small sample of new policy

i don disagree with this i believe it should be harsh. these kids are makin stupid decisions. i don't believe in drinking underage. i don't really believe i nn drinking very much at all. anyway

it was also said that if a comment is posted about a teacher (or any thing written saying negative slanderous material towareds a teacher) and it is reported to the poilce...there will be a investgation and the teacher is put on leave (i dont remember how long for but...)

yeah...
also: the comment was posted about a FEMALE teacher. i wish i could find original comment.

Without this the whole discussion is kinda pointless (not totally pointless mind you, but I would choose a side based on what was posted).

Teachers are teachers. Most of them, and I work with them everyday, are just trying to do the best they can with what little they are given. Having to fight with the administration and the students everyday while being hated by both and getting paid very little is not as easy as it sounds.

BTW Bone, where is the tape from the rest of that lecture? Is it possible that it made the inflammatory comments seem less inflammatory and has therefor been removed for the sake of blowing this god-awful story out of proportion?

I'm going to regret that last paragraph.
