anyone care to voice their...

hey,

here a little story for you:

this just happend a few days ago at my high school.

A friend of mine posted a rather nasty (I didnt get a chance to read it) and downright bad comment involving a teacher on his friend's myspace. From what he told me it the "BADDDD." Now I dont know what the message was but it must have been somthing real bad to bring about these results.

Someone found it and showed the superintendant. He issued the poster 5 days detention.

Then someone complained that 5 wasnt harsh enough.
So it was changed to a 3 day suspension.

Well that suspension got the poster kicked off the NHS, he CANNOT graduate as a validvictorian and consequently he is no longer eligile for the Honors program at Ohio State University

Another rumor that is floating around my school is that if the school hadnt acted on the "comment" the teacher that was in it was going to take him to court.

Now what i want to know is what do u think of all that?

Me, i tihnk that the school is overstepping its boundries. I dont think they have any right to dicipline a student for somhting that was done outside of school like that.

But my school is i dont know....i mean the cops are patrolling myspace, they have hired "informants" within the senior class and there was a recent "terrorist attack" (as told to us by the Hazmat team) something happend with chlorine in one of the classrooms.

I am NOT involved in this incident i am just an observer.
felt like that had 2 all had 2 be said...

so fellow MS-ers what do you think/say to that?

Ethics and morals and decent conduct are part of or should be part of being a student at any high school. If the teachers are violating a code of conduct, fire them. If the students violate it, fire them too. They can get a GED and move on. Their choice. It should be considered a priveledge to receive a good education. Making it a right has been a mistake. Even the slackers think they can take up valuable space in our classrooms.

Without knowing too much of details, well it could be anything. But, my guess is that the honors program at Ohio State is over rated anyway. The student probably doesn't need it. And if he was stupid enough to do something to jeopardize his academic career, well then...

We place too much emphasis on high school education, we still need ditch diggers.

you'd have to define baaaaddd or whatever.. hard telling.. if it was some kind of personal threat then he didn't get enough time in detention and should be in juvie as we speak... if he was *****ing about something valid then the school is way out of line.. hope his folks sue..

ditch diggers... oh my...

When I was in HS in Brooklyn; one of the guys on our street drove his motorcycle through the front doors and into the lunchroom.
He was suspended for 1 day.
What's worse?

As a nerd, surely you could have designed and constructed some sort of defense-minded robot that would fend off bullies when called upon

from what was told it involved "eating" someone's u know out. I dont think it had any content pertaining to a person threat.

yes this "terrorist threat": thats what the Hazmat team guy said, under the Homeland security act (sotmhing or another) that what it is..strange the news didnt mention anything like that. It might have just been used as a scare tactic to get information.

oh yes my hs is a lil different. My graduating class is 54 strong. I think there is somewhere between 300-450 total in the 7-12 high school.

what he said was most likely unethical and far from moral. I don't believe it was meant to be taken literally or seriously. It was most likely done in some kind of joking way but it could have easily been twisted.

the city i live in, at their high school, every year there is something called the jock run. seniors pile into a uhaul truck, dressed only in a jock strap or bra/panties. the truck pulls up infront of the school and deploys the army of senios and they run around teh building etc etc. Admin constatnly threatens them with canceling graduation but nothing ever really happends.
If somthing like that were to take place at MY hs. oh dear god i dont know what would happen, we'd all get booked and put in the slammer overnight.

I'll have to ask around and see what that comment was ENTIRELY about. I've heard conflicting reports.

IMO, the school is overstepping its boundaries. I can't see any thing being said (other than physical threats) that could jeprodise a student's academic career. I can't speak for OSU's program i dont know anything about it--i dont quite like the school neway.

thanks for the feedback.

One of the things I can see to warrant such a response was if this was slander against a male teacher implying he had sex with a student.

Something like that, even if it is just a rumor, can, has, and will, ruin a teacher for the rest of his (or her lately, I guess) life. It is taken so seriously, and rightfully so, that the mere accusation is a pink slip waiting to happen.

If he was going to graduate tops in your class then he's smart enough to go somewhere just as good, and will be fine.

It's possible there is a lesson in here somewhere.

Teachers have been jailed for having sex with under-aged students. They usually get fired if the student is of age. Both of those policies I agree with. A teacher is always in a position of power over the student and it is the teachers responsibility NOT to take advantage of that power.

Given all of that, if the teacher is innocent he has been badly slandered and it could put him in legal jeopardy. He has every right to go after the student.

But I wonder whether the school has a right to intervene. Would it be better for the institution to slam the student or for the teacher to lawyer-up and sue the student and his parents for slander. Or is it libel?

If you ask me, I think that myspace stuff is just a large avenue to tempt kids to get themselves into all kinds of trouble.

I would not let my teenage daughters get on there after I saw some of the crap theese kids were posting.

In my area they have cops dedicated to monitoring them for pedophilia and any derivatives thereof.

Some kids from my daughters highschool were posing nude pics of themselves, telling everyone where they go to school and what malls they hang out at.

I saw that crap and pulled the plug on that real quick like.

Bad news altogether.

can't theese kids do something better with all the energy they have.

I get on my daughters case all the time about texting on her cell phone.

She must have racked up over 140 hours of texting last week alone, but she still makes honor roll at shcool, so it's not affecting her grades, but I always asker whay can't she just make a 3 minute real phone call instead of clicking that damn phone for hours at a time?

So I try to go shoot hoops and catch ball with them every chance I get just to keep them off the damn phone or computer.

Ha ,look at my hypocrisy now.
