Anybody like American muscle cars?

I've got hooked on Mopars many years ago, when I borrowed my buddies 1971 blown 440 charger for my highschool prom....That was a trip!

I now am working on a 67 Plymouth barracuda notchback with plans for a hemi for street/ strip and show, but more street and show.

My buddy has a 67 Dodge Dart 2-door post car, that has a 440 and he runs the quarter in 11 seconds flat so far and he is planning to runs in the tens this summer.
I found out quickly how much time and money it takes to shave tenths off of the quarter mile.

He also has a 69 440 charger, a 69 Charger R/T-440, and two Sport Satellites (Road Runner clones), a couple Dusters and a 72 Challenger.

Iv'e got some pics on my website link here, just look at photo albums and you can see the Cuda, Dart ,and his red Charger that used to belong to one of the second Duke boy actors, Coy or vance, I can't remember which one.
It was the dark haired one, but I don't know his real name.

Yeah..I know what you mean...love them....however finacial obligations and storge problems keep me from having any of these fine cars....much less a real Hemi...

I'm jealous of you dude....I hope you know we expect pictures when you actually built this.

Oh, pictures you will get.

it is currently in the body shop getting painted hemi-orange with strobe stripes like the ones that the AAR-'Cuda's have.

The hood will remain flat black, and the AAR monikers will not be applied.

The Hemi will be a stroked 360 to 413 cubes with two four barrels and hemi-heads from rod and www.rodandcustommachines.com

They have finally made hemi heads fior small block applications.

The whole package cost about10 grand give or take what type of intake/fuel system you want to go with.

I estimate with time and money issues, I will probably not turn the key for another couple years, but I am slowly plugging away at it.

The car was originally a 273 auto on the column, but have performed too many modifications on it to ever go back.

My proudest modification was mini tubbing the rear wheelhouses without using aftermarket tubs.
I just split the existing ones three inches, and relocated the springs inward three inches, and massaged everything to look factory.

It has and 8-point roll cage with provisions to accomodate the rear factory seats for passengers.
It will truly be comfortable and versatile.

I have too many mods to list without boring you to death, but it will truly stand out wherever I go with it.
I can't wait to get it back from the body shop.

Leaving the AAR logos off is probably a good idea, since AAR's were all (I think) de-stroked 340's

Yeah I just like the strobe stripes on the 70 model AAR cuda's.

I just want to be different since they never put stripes like that on the A-body Barracuda's.

The AAR and CUDA monikers will not be installed.( only on 1970 AAR cuda's.)

Like I said,It will be an original car, one of a kind.

I love to modify stuff.

One of the neatest Mercedes mod's I made was to install a 210 fiber optic radio and cd- changer in a 1967 red SL.

It was a breeze, but very different.

I also built custom speaker boxes under both sides of the dash, very slick, but I never took any pictures at the time.
I'm kinda glad I didn't because everybody and thier mother would want it done.

You probably should have titled this thread "Anybody like MOPARS!?"

But many of us old fogies remember when the same cars were fodder for high-schoolers...every "motor-head" at my HS had a Camaro, Barracuda, Charger, Nova, Chevelle, etc..

Holley carbs, Edelbrock manifolds, Crane Cams, Hooker headers, Cragar mags, and Mickey Thompson tires were the standard fare.

Stereo systems were another story...you had a cutting-edge system if you sported a Craig in-dash AM/FM cassette with a couple of 6x9 coaxial speakers, powered by a 40-watt booster!! How times have changed!

I still wish to have a 69 Z28 grace my garage...but I have the same dilemma as BHD...and for that matter, I can't even find time to restore the 73 VW rotting on my driveway...

Yeah, i'm partial to mopars, but i do like them all.

I had a 1970 model firebird with a 327 vette motor and a three speed stick.

That car was a force to be reckoned with.

I grew up around them all and I can appreciate a nice Mustang , Camaro, olds 442, GTO Judge or whatever.

I like them all, but your right Mopars do rub me the right way I guess.

I think I like them so much because they were different than the norm, sorta like the red headed step child that would kick your butt if you looked at him wrong.

I think the wild colors and decal packages did it for me, especially the Wile-E Coyote stickers on the air cleaners of the road runners.

Also movies like vanishing point, the second version on the car chase scene between the cop's Dodge charger R/T and the Challenger R/T.
"It takes a Mopar to catch a Mopar" comment stuck in my mind.

And don't forget BULLETT.
That black Charger spanked that Mustang!

I worked at a Chevy dealership in 69. They brought in two 427 Camaros. They probably had to put two set of rear tires on the cars before they sold them because every salesman, mechanic and their cousins were taking them out for a spin whenever they got the chance.

Oddly enough, one of the cars that attracted the most attention was a top of line wagon (Brookwood?) because it was the first Chevrolet anyone had seen with a price tag over $5k.

Browsing a few weeks ago I saw some pictures of a twin turbo 440. One turbo on each front corner of the motor. Aesthetically quite pleasing.

Until he lost control and (via Hollywood special effects) spontaneously exploded!

Anyone else notice the same green VW being passed up everytime the Mustang rounded a corner?

When the Group 7 Can-Am and the Trans-Am series were running in the 70's, that was the heyday of American Muscle. Chevy powered McLarens and Lolas . . . Factory Camaros, Mustangs, and yes . . the Javelin, on road circuits.

Two nights ago, I caught the chase scene from Bullit on HD! The in-car shots of flying down the hills almost resulted in air sickness in the house.

I lke how the funky music cuts out and it gets quiet right before the Charger goes wide open and cuts sideways up the hill.

That gives me chills every time I watch it.

I rented the movie once and kept rewinding to that scene over and over again, to the point where my bride was ready to kill me.

Hey, I got to do something until I get the Barracuda running, right?

I've been helping a friend with his '77 F150. Before the last engine overhaul, it made a 13.7 second run at just over 100mph. We put hypereutectic pistons in, bumping up the compression ratio a bit and very carefully adjusting the ring end-gap. It already had .600 lift at the valves. It hasn't seen the track since the engine was reinstalled, but I'm hoping for under 13 seconds. We estimate it at about 450hp. It's a blast to drive, even if it really only likes to go straight.
