I do not like to put down any auctions, but this one is really unusual it seems. I was searching e-bay for 1985 Mercedes and saw this 85' 300SD, with a BIN of $5000!

It has 275K and the condition leaves more to be desired. Only average interior, rust issues and high mileage.... will it sell for $5000? You be the judge. Time will tell....... It does have a "make offer" option however.

In comparison, here is an ultra nice one, with a bid still under $2000. Very high miles, but you would never know it......

yea, that is a turd for $5000. maybe he ment $500.00 sorry but anyone that pays that much for duckt tape upolstery.... well that just basically explains that

It's a matter of finding just ONE person who's willing to pay that price, however ridiculous it appears to us. It works both ways - a really nice car may be worth much more, but if there is not a buyer at that time willing to do so, it will go for the price that us is a deal! I have seen sellers on ebay asking prices for cars that appear outrageous, readvertising them numerous times until it hooks a newbie. I can look back on my car buying days, and regreted once paying too much for a certain car. There are too many people out there who are too trustful, and can be taken advantage of. Also, there are too many people out there who will make a quick buck without any conscience - it does not matter that the kid who buy the car earns $6.50/hour and saves for a couple of years for the first car (and spends more to fix it!).

The first one doesn't look much better then my SD, and I paid $500 for mine.

Gotta love ebay. The top SD is worth $1500 at most.

The pictures were looking good until we got to the rust and interior

My gallery SD is the twin (outside) to that car which I bought for $1200 BUT it does not take long to put some serious dollars into one of these just piddling and fixing.
