I haven't seen a black widow in Northern CA yet but I've seen em a lot in Los Angeles, I'd find em behind pretty much everything there.

Nice!

Hey, I'm gonna start another doodlebug thread (or update the previous one) because of something that happened this week.

Shaun,

A Wolfspider, eh? Thanks!

I have a few others outside that like to build huge webs...some of them over 8 feet wide....gonna have to take a pic of them sometime.

Bot, on our trips to NOLA, the talk about what to watch out for/avoid always included that little spider. Since non of us were experts, the policy on spiders seemed to be: "kill 'em all and let God sort 'em out". Hopefully, we didn''t kill too many helpful guys. Now on the subject of those blasted anthills.... well, blasting's too good for them. (do they serve ANY usefull prupose?)
BTW, the other two critters to watch out for were the gators and the water mocs. We just stayed out of the water and they were never a problem.

Lots of wolf spiders killed by people who think they're the recluse. I've seen a few recluses and you know what? They are appropriately named. They really do stay out of the way of humans even though they are not all that uncommon.

Most people get bit when they accidentally squeeze the critter. Like moving furniture and get bit on the finger.

I'll probably upset arachnologists around the world by saying this: If I didn't know what brown recluse looks like I'd just kill brown spiders, too.

Same with water moccasins. I know 2 people who have been bitten by them -- both while handling the snakes. For most venomous animals we are safe if we just leave them alone.
