Concealed carry VS open carry laws. Wisconsin
 

Ok, this is getting out of control... I wont go into the details too much, other then somebody passed me like I was standing still, in a no passing zone (i was doing 55, in a 50), and then at the next stopsign, came OUT of their car, screamed at me, and ran twords my truck...

I left fairly quickly, I though about removing their door with my bumper... I didnt

They chased me, honking, flashing lights, and weaving, into the mall parking lot. I parked ON the sidewalk, by the entrance. They flicked me off, yelled at me some more, and left.

WTF... Mabey it was a drug addict (meth's bad here)

I know retard voted against concealed carrying... Whats the law say about open carry?

I read what www.packing.org says... Basicly, on the dash, unloaded... and thats it.

Our state Constitution says "The people have the right to keep and bear arms for security, defense, hunting, recreation or any other lawful purpose."

I'll be carrying... Legal or not, in the next few years... Firearm or Electric.



In order for something to be considered an "open carry", what does that mean?
In a car, when your walking... Anything.

how old are you, Nate? If you are under age, you may be asking for trouble.

Under-age for a handgun is under 21.

Also, whatever you do, DO NOT venture into the state of Illinois with a gun on your dash. Illinois has some rather specific laws about firearm transportation and use, and that one's covered.

Oh, and don't get caught carrying illegally, or you'll never be able to own a gun ever again in your life.

As far as carrying a weapon.... I say more power to you, Darwin's theories sometimes need a boost.

every state is different,i wish they would all get together and allow concealed permit holders to cross state lines,this would eliminate alot of confusion.go to south dakota and get a purchase permit,and your purchase permit is a concealed permit that is just like a drivers license,has your picture and all which i think is a great idea,but here in iowa you have to take a safety course and then hope to god that the county sheriff will give you one and you better have a damn good reason to have one.county i used to live in the sheriff basically told me if i wasn't in some type of law inforcement to forget it,county i'm in now sheriff signed my permit and i have never met the man,go figure.

Even in states where open carry is not against any laws and concealed carry is legal with a permit, there are plenty of counties and cities with laws against open carry. It's not as serious as a state or federal violation, but it's there. The ATF website has links to state laws, which also contain any city and county laws that are reported. Know your responsibilities.

That 66 looks pretty nice. I'd probably opt for a semiauto for carry, if it were legal here and if I decided to excercise the right, but a revolver can't be beat for reliability.

I wondered the same thing, though if a person is agressively out of control, I don't care if he's in the right. There are civil ways to resolve injustices.

I hadn't made a judgment of the situation, just asked a question.

Kimber seems to produce good handguns, but they're sure proud of them. I'm not sure what I'd use, but I rather like the compromise of the 40SW round, and would probably use that over 45ACP.

I only have two handguns now, and one of them is a .22 auto which hardly counts for anything tougher than paper. The other is a SW99 which I really like to shoot. I've put thousands of rounds through it at the range, and while it's not as accurate as some, it's good enough and very reliable.

stacking the info in your favor. Knee jerk responses aren't going to get to
the root of the problem and based on face value of what you've provided,
you're still in a position where disparity of force is with you. You're in your
car, and they are outside.....yelling. Yeah, right....your choice is to either
brandish or drive away. No brainer. I'd like to know what precipitated
their action and what 'details' you've not gone into.

....would things have turned out differently if you'd been carrying - "legally or not"? How would you have handled things if you'd been armed? Would you have brandished your weapon in an effort to ward the guy off? If you'd done that and it failed to discourage him, would you have - could you have - pulled the trigger? It's easy to claim you'd fire on another man - it's quite another thing to actually do it. I have no objection to legal carrying...providing you possess considerable and proper training in the use of weapons (that does not mean a weekend carry class, and off you go) and when to use them. Best of luck in your decision.

That's the problem with keeping a gun in the car. It's real easy to make a mistake and catch a charge. Guy is yelling at you and you pull a gun, he goes back to the car, dials 911 and says "some guy is waiving a pistol around" next thing you know you're face down on the side of the road.

Don't have the proper permit, congratulations, you just got a CCW and are now a felon.

I've had a couple guns but if they are in my car they are locked, unloaded and inaccessible.

Actually I won't carry anything bigger than my Case Peanut. Technically speaking a knife over 3in (3.5?) in your pocket is a CCW charge. I'm more afraid of the cops than the robbers. A robber might take my wallet, a cop can take my career.

lol. once a cop asked me why my gun wasn't loaded and on me in my car; he thought that's how i should carry it. it was in the trunk with the clip out.
