The pain is variable:

* Drop a bowling ball from the kitchen table on your bare foot every five - ten seconds, that is my relaxed minimum pain level at the moment.
* Maximum (vague shadow of reality) feels like white hot metal fragments spraying around, while some idiot is trying to park a Kenworth truck on it, my guts are trying to twist into a single m&m size knot, don't forget the hyper speed HOT/COLD sweats, deathly pallor, and all this joy can start/stop happening individually/simultaneously in a heart beat.

In a full kidney crisis, one of the following drugs are required just short of lethal level to blunt the pain = hospital ER.

# hydromorphone (Dilaudid)
# levorphanol (Levo-Dromoran)
# morphine
# oxycodone (in Percodan)
# oxymorphone (Numorphan)

I'm starting to hurt just reading about it! I really wish there were something we could do for you!

My experience with a stone was no picnic, but compared to yours it was a walk in the park.

Roy, hang tough!

From what I know of Roy W. he seems to be a tough man, he will get past this easily. I suggest staying away from caffeine.

I've spent a couple of days around Roy in person. Maybe I shouldn't let it out, people might start sending him hate mail for having anything to do with me.

Anyway, yes I know he's tough, but I'll bet even John Wayne would have curled up in agony if he was going through what Roy is dealing with.

WOW! That sure as heck doesn't sound like a 3mm stone!

You sure this isn't what the doc found in the CT scan?

Hmm

Sometimes I dislike doctors..

The ER doctors said that yes I was passing blood, but their test showed no infection.

Then why the heck am I having burning urination???

**************************

Long story short, got some amoxicillin from another doctor..

BIG shock, burning gone, flow increased x5, pain reduced to very uncomfortable = 100 lbs resting on my kidney.

I stopped the morphine this evening, should be able to drive by Monday.

Still sucks to be me, but I feel so much better.

Lack of pain is seriously underrated.

Another treatment that buddy of mine went through: they insert a device that is much like the 4 prong pick up tool we all use in the garage to retrieve tools we drop in unreachable places, up though the plumbing until they reach the stone. Extend the four little fingers and grasp the stone. They they hold the exit point with one hand and pull like heck on the tool until it and the stone exit the body where it should have come out on its own. it is extra fun for us. I was ready to cry just from buddy describing what he went through.

Damn......hope you get past this real soon Roy....I can only imagine how bad it is....I've personally experienced pain so high that my brain litterally blocked it....but didn't stop the severe nausia that manifested itself. Of course that was a result of literally tearing the calf muscle 95% of the way in half....not a kidney stone. Which I've heard compared to giving birth to a basket ball.

You are right...not something you would wish on someone else...much less have to suffer yourself.

Pain is nothing more than a switch in the brain that can be turned on....and off.

I learned to develope the ability to focus thru pain many years ago.

Its not that difficult to do if you put your mind to it.

When you survive a major kidney stone attack, get back to me.
Until then please excuse me for doubting.

For years I have consulted doctors all over the world, regarding this question.

The universal answer is; if you can block the pain it is not a critical attack or it is to late and the Kidney Ruptured = get to a hospital quick or die.

Amputating your own arm or leg with a dull pocket knife, soldering iron and no anesthetic is enormously less traumatic.

This is why military special forces are trained to stab the kidney for a silent kill.
