Interesting take on Mexico...

...illegal aliens and the pro illegal alien marches.

For your consideration.

I think the Mexicans are hypocrits.....they have draconian laws pertaining to illegals from south of their border and then seem to think they have some sort of god given right to cross ours.

Actually their laws are just as draconian regardles of which cardinal point you enter Mejico from.

But a point extremely well-taken.

Doesn't the dilemma serve to illustrate the duplicity between the mandates of the government and the obvious needs of the people?

Jim B. 05-04-2006 03:46 PM

Deja vu again

Not PC to call them "Illegal", LBC, unless you are a protester waving a sign that says "no human is illegal"

Agree with the Doctor about Mex. hypocrisy - dont get me started about Real Estate either, illegal to own any within 30 miles of the border and the Coast but in USA doesnt matter who you are or where you got money you can buy anything

And anyone - thinking of a pregnant Saudi woman who flies here, gives birth to an American citizen and flies home. Try that there!

And: Hey, doesn't ANYONE'S memory go back to 1986?

Been there done that EVERYONE got amnesty. Now here we are again. Same thing. All over again except MANY MORE and MORE MILITANT too this time. Do it and fast forward 20 years, will not be fun, three times as many, and they won't be as polite either.

It won't address ANYTHING other than the status of those in the USA illegally

You could put up a wall at the border, but who would build it? (Tongue firmly in cheek)

BENZ-LGB 05-04-2006 03:57 PM

Jim b. I won't discuss your post, except to say that I agree with the hypocrisy "thingy."

I must also say, I love those SEC series Benzes. Mercedes Enthusiast magazine listed it as a "future classic."

I think they are nuts...it's already a classic. :D

Pay a decent living American wage and you'd have to fend off the masses of applicants. Pay the minimum wage of the early 90's and you might as well stay home, not worth the effort. Some people say Americans don't want to do menial work, that's bull. They just don't want to work for illegal immigrant wages and live 10 abreast in a 3 room slum apartment.

450SLCGUY, I agree with you 100%.

That has been my point all along. Cut off the supply of cheap, illegal labor and employers will have to pay higher wages. Everyone's standard of living goes up, everyone wins.

The whole debate has been about improving conditions for Americans, not about racism.

FYI when I lived in Mexico, the term 'gringo' in reference to Americans was as derrogatory as the 'N' word. It is a racist term. We just don't recognize it.

Thank you very much for the compliment to the 560 SEC, I din't buy it so much as an investment but rather to drive and enjoy. Certainly it delivered on its promise.

(I also actually was considering a '92 or '93 W140 sedan at the time, but a little voice inside me said not to, we need to listen to those voices, glad I did, in retrospect - but back in '85 I drove a Judge's new '84 500SEC euro with full boat AMG conversion to Colorado so he could have it in Aspen to ski at XMAS and it became a "sometime in the future car" for me then, I was hooked )

Your comments are especially valued and; welcome because your past comments reveal you as a very intelligent and thoughful individual.

It is especially offensive when accompanied by "pinche" as in "pinche gringo" meaning "bastard white American" or "mother f****r white American."

The man referenced in the article knew he was being offensive, hence he changed from "gringo" to "Americano." His original intent, however, was clear.

Apropos to this subject, yesterday morning I had breakfast at iHop (yes I need to occassionally satisfy the craving for high calories breakfast). She was born in Mexico but is her legally. She is very bright (and very pretty) which makes it a pleasure to talk to her.

On the subject of the marches she had two observations:

1. The Mexican government should stop being so corrupt. INstead of Fox trying to tell the US what to do, he should fix things in Mexico so people like her wouldn't have to come here, leaving her family behind, to earn a decent living.

2. The demonstrations were stupid, they only managed to economically hurt poor immigrants. The marches and marches also only managed to hurt the image of immigrants, giving fuel to people who are already naturally anti-Hispanic.

I think she is right on both counts. She is not the only immigrant who feels the same way about Mexico, its government and the marches.

Will you complain when unemployment reaches 9%? Employers who have to pay higher wages will reduce their labor force to offset the new expense or raise prices on their products. Either way, you'll end up with inflation and a high unemployment rate.

Everyone wins? How about everyone loses?

Yeah , Mexico need more illegals just like we do......NOT.

If they took care of their culture of curruption down there they wouldn't have people trying to flee. And that applies to places south of Mexico as well.

really, the way it is there now the only people getting over are the people that benifit from not paying a fair wage.

Its nothing more than a feudal system...or what the gready SOB's were doing here around 1900, Paying barely subsistance wages does wonderful things for the economy all right. All it does is keep a wealthy few wealthy and keeps everyone else practically as slaves. You won't have a middle class where that happens.

Well BHD already answered your comments better than I could...but ponder the following.

You own a farming business in California, or Arizona or anywhere else in the US where farming is done. All of the sudden, no more illegals working for next to nothing. Now yu have to pay real wages for people to do your work. Are you really going to cut back? Eliminate your work force? Let your crops die in the fileds and not ship them to your buyers?

I think not.

They will have to start paying real wages. Yes, that may mean temporary inflation, until everyone else's wages start going up.

Every economist who has been asked the question comes back with the same scenario: get rid of illegal aliens and wages will go up for everyone.

Ponder this additional scenario. According to an economist quoted in Newsweek (and I will have to get the article) every American family who is here legally pays on the average $1,200.00 per year in additional taxes to support the educational costs created by the children of illegal aliens.

Think what you could do with that extra $1,200.00 per year.

Perhaps pay for a few extra gallons of diesel fuel? By the way, where do you live that you get to drive at 85 mph? The freeways here are so congested that even 65 mph is not even a possibility most of the time.
