Why support Israel...???

Why indeed???

Most Americans agree that supporting Israel is the right thing to do.

Unless, of course, you are a big fan of the Iranian President (and former hostage taker) or you're channeling the not-so-dearly-departed Fuhrer (at least the trains ran on time -- or was that Benito?).

I don't think you have to worry about acknowledging copyrights when you link to a source. That is the same as citing literature. Also, I believe you get a pass if you're using the material for educational purposes, in which case a citation is required, not just polite. What constitutes educational use is ambiguous but has been interpreted fairly leniently.

What has right or wrong got to do with anything? We support people because they are useful to us either today or as an ace in the pocket.

Before we do that, we need to ask if we can even trust them any further than we can shoot them.

Edit: You do realize it is easier to support one state than many, right? You also realize it is easier to support that one state when they will be in deep crap without your support than many other states that couldn't care less if you lived or died. Think of a relationship between a druggie and his supplier. Pusher has the druggie by the short a curlies. Pusher has nothing on me since I don't use dope. Who do you think he has more influence on? Me or the druggie?

Thanks Bot, federal copyright law, including the fair use doctrine, are not my area of expertise.

If history is any kind of a teacher, then the answer would seem to be no. But then again, at one time we helped Saddam Hussein because he was messing with the Iranians.

Don't you just love foreign policy.

Give Hussien a break. Foriegn policy is fluid and not as static as you like it to be. Everything is based off "What have you done for me LATELY." and not your numerous achievements 50 years ago. If you have what I need, I'm your best friend. If not, I don't know you. Hussien was useful AT THE TIME. Today he is a thorn in our side. Times change. OBL was our friend at one time. He took our Stinger Missiles. Today he sets bombs on our soil.

as a practicing geographer and former botanist, I speak with astonishing insight and vast knowledge of copyright law. Plus I asked our librarian.

Not to mention a confirmed fan of Gene Wilder and Young Frankestein.

When I was a kid I wanted to be a cartographer. For some reason I thought it would be a great way to travel for free.

I used to spend hours drawing maps of the Cuban coastline, drawing in every river mouth, every water inlet. Until one day a friend of the family, who was well connected with "la Revolucion" suggested to my parents that my hobby could be construed the "wrong way."

NO more maps for me after that.

Who shot Scud missiles at whom in Gulf War I and did that country retaliate? What would have happened if they had?
