I drove a Viper today!

Well, today at work, I got a call from one of my clients saying he bought a new car....

He gave me the VIN# and told me to punch it through. He would not tell me the vehicle, but when it pulled up, I was pleasantly suprised.

The car is an oldie, but a goodie. Shes a 1994 Dodge Viper. I had to go over his house to have him sign some documents, and when I arrived, h was just finishing up a nice coat of wax. She really looked good. Anyways, I had him sign the documents, and handed him his proof of insurance. He then immediatly responded by saying, "You should take her out!" I declined, and he persisted.

I decided what the hell. I sat down, and those seats were decently comfortable. However it was nothing like the seats I am used to in my Mercedes. I fired her up, and it sounded thunderous. It was rattling everything, I could feel my brain bouncing back and forth.

Anyways, pulled her out onto the main road, and opened her up.

DEAR LORD, it was louder than my old diesel when the exhaust fell apart. It easily ate up the ticks on the speedometer, and I had to stop at 80. It pulled much like the 600 does, but in a different way. It packs a whallop when you hit that 1-2 shift, and will light up the tires. I then had to turn around, and nailed the gas. It sounded like no other car pulling to redline. It had a deep sound that sounded like it was growling. It wasnt much of a handler though, and the brakes kinda sucked. It had lotsa fade, and just wouldn't cut it for me.

Anyways, it was a beautiful ride! I will post the pics when I figure out how to get em off my phone!

Awesome, sounds like fun!

I've not had the chance to drive one of those.... but I have heard from other sources that the brakes are not so great....

But those cars were all about GOING, not about stopping! hahaha...

Dodge likes to go for power. On the other end of the scale, the old Dodge Omni had a 2.2 liter in a car the size of which usually gets a 1.8 or smaller. I had one I got cheap -- 5 spd. Surprisingly fast and fun little car.

Very cool. Vipers are awsome.

I am told a very tricky car to drive fast though. Lots of HP and wieght up front means you had better be carefull in the corners or in the rain.

I was selling Dodges when the Viper first came out. Becasue it was a seller's market the dealership capped the commission at a flat rate. However, the salesman was allowed to drive the car into the showroom to await its new owner. They came in sealed trucks, and the driver got it off the truck, and left it in the middle of the lot. The salesman ( and his manager) got in with the sales man driving. This dealership was maybe 300 feet across the front. The salesman used 299' in getting up tp speed and stopping before running into the used car office. The wide-eyed, and much shaked manager said afterwards, " I only remember the used car office coming at me at a great rate of speed". After its brief ride, it was put on the sales floor and roped off, waiting for its new owner to pick it up.
We sold them at full list plus. I got a phone call one day from a friend of Lee Iaccoca who had seen Lee driving his on a Sunday morning, and asked for a list of dealerships who had one to sell. I took the call; but the guy wanted a discount on the price. The dealership wouldn't budge, so I lost my only prospect on a Viper. I would have delivered to him ( in Michigan) for free!

Sweet! I also drove one last summer. Friend of mine dropped by with it. It sounded like an airplane landed on my driveway.

The thing I remember most about it was the sound of the engine and the crushing acceleration. It felt like the car was going to simply blast off the road. Fun car!
