2 Bars Between The Seats ?

Just a dumb question , what are they called and used for..all I know is they are a pain in the but when you try to get something out when it falls between the console and seat...

those are to guide the seat belt buckles when the seats are moved forward or back

it is a 1982 240d with a 4 speed..

More specifically, the buckles are attached to the seats but the bars prop them in the "up" position, presenting them to the driver/passenger for easy use. Without the bars, the buckles would "flop" around.
