Cool paint job on my trucks hood, tips, photoshopers?
 

Ok, I know this might sound dumb to quite a few members (you know who you are), but I want to paint my hood (and only the hood)

The rest of the truck was painted rustolium gun metal grey, so I need a color that looks OK next to grey...

Then, I'd like some suggestions on how to flame it, photoshop anybody?

I wont do it for a while, but I know I'll get bored this summer, and what better way to cure that, then to have a painting party on beater vehicles?

My plan is to sand it down to bare metal (using 60/100/150/220 grit paper, on a block) fix the rust (small amounts on the frount lip) and then prime it... Prime, then wetsand with 220. Prime it again, and then add the grey base coat. 3 coats of grey (high grit wet sanding in between) and then mask the flames, and the rest of the truck off.

Any Issues you can see me running into? I'll let it dry inbetween coats, and tarp my garage off.

Any tips on painting with spray paint rattle cans (no air gun, srry)?

Also, can any skilled photoshopers "paint" my hood for me? I'll get a picture of it later tomarrow...

Yes. Don't expect a good finished product. Especially with unactivated primer. Activated primer (or paint) must be mixed immediately prior to spraying, so it's not applicable to rattle-cans.

I know it wont be very good, but we'll try hard to get it as good as possible (with rattle cans).

Once upon a time, I saw a black car (at a show I think...)

the car was (gloss) black, and the flames were a matte black - An excellent look IMO.

I've seen more than a couple types of flames, red/orange/ curvey or linear...you could probably google image search up what you like and then just emulate that yourself.


You'll probably want to go finer than 220 grit for painting, I am used to hearing about guys with 1600 and 2400 grit paper for making their paint look good, but then again, I'm not sure if this would help a rattle-can job.

If the truck is worth keeping, spend the $300 on an air compressor and cheesy water/oil seperator (harbor freight is your friend here =) or not. Air guns are not that eggspensive once you have the air. This opens up your options greatly.
