A new obsession..Hudsons?

I have fallen in love with the Hudson Hornet..man that car is sleek, and with a 308 CI inline six, seems like a really cool car. A guy down the road was selling a ratted out one, just the body, for 1500. These cars seem to be a technological tour de force of the 1950's. I love the styling. Anyone have anymor info on these fabulous machines?

The twin H engine --six cyl with 2 carbs DOMINATED the stock car circut for a few years--until the OHV Fords and Chevies upped the ante.

The Hornet is definitely on my all-time top 10 list. In addition to that 6-cyinder motor, Hudson came up with a new chassis design that resulted in a lower center of gravity. When I hit the lottery, I am definitely going to have a Hornet in my 10-car garage.

i remember one of my uncles had a brown one like in the picture.

they had a "step down frame" which lowered the center of gravity. they were a technical tour de force as far as chassis goes but the engine was out dated. they handled excellently. won the first mexican road race i think. besides the nascar bit. they had front and rear anti sway bars too. the earliest i have heard of.

the guy who wrenched on the winning cars for nascar was smokey yunick. he was the best in his day. he pioneered the extremely clever cheating in nascar. he once brought a 7/8 scale 66 (i think) chevelle 427 and raced it. supposedly drove a car away from an inspection without the gas tank attached.... apparently there was a hidden tank in the frame.

he had a driver named herb porter. smokey described herb like this.. "he could out drive the other guys while picking boogers". i am lol just typing that.

they have a dashboard design that reminds of a cris craft inboard wooden boat dash. looks really cool.
