North Dakota farmers open restaurant in Wash DC
NPR, again under fire from never-give-up conservatives, had a great piece on "All Things Considered" today:
Agraria, a new restaurant in the upscale Georgetown section of Washington, D.C., is owned and operated by the North Dakota Farmers' Union. The goal is to make sure power players in the nation's capital keep the American farmer in mind. It's sort of like farmers markets taken one step further -- straight from the farmer to the restaurant. Everything is from a family farming operation, including shrimp from family operated businesses in Leesyanna who they say are hurting from low priced shrimp from Asian shrimp farms, a whole 'nother apalling subject. I heard a wheat farmer say on NPR once that if an extra penny was charged for each loaf of bread, and if that penny went directly to the farmer, it'd make the difference between prosperity and slowly going broke.

Thanks for the link, SeeMac. Its a romantic idea the farmers have, that will scare politicians more because of exposure than actually reminding them that they are ****ing the farmers. My views on farm subsidies (and understanding of them) are one of the more prominant reasons why I no longer consider my self a republican. I would like to see some of these hard core laissez faire on farming types eat bacon after they return from a three-tier hog farm owned by a conglomorate........
I bet you are a Milagro Beanfield War fan too, aren't you? |

Your comment following the original post didn't make sense and certainly didn't seem to have anything to do with the thread. Carry on as self proclaimed idiot, carry on--poof.

Bored. All the bright yellow, pastel blue and lime green lines in AutoCAD make my eyes hurt, so I take my breaks here.

"The goal is to make sure power players in the nation's capital keep the American farmer in mind."
That part kind of bothered me. As if its washingtons job to keep any particular profession in mind. Sounds like another group trying to get special treatment or something like that, its capitalism, you wanted to be a farmer and like any other profession, sink or swim, but the article linked says it "really has nothing to do with lobbying," they just want to make money, so I guess my beef is with the radio making it sound political if indeed it isnt. |
