Bambi's revenge: deer puts the hurt on hunter

This deer was SERIOUS about hurting that ol' boy. Didn't even use his rack and he was still damn near deadly.

And now for the comic relief segment of our show:

That's amazing. Never would have figured a deer to be aggressive toward a human.

Those 100 lb. hoofs had to put a world of hurt on that boy............

I don't know what was up with the French dialogue. I found two vids on the web of it and they were both in French. The incident took place in Toledo, WA, not far from my old hometown.

I was wondering if the deer could kill the guy with that?!? Several well placed blows to the head with those sharp hoofs could do it, I'd bet.

That vid is a few years old. IIRC, the guy slathered himself with male deer scent during mating season; not a particularly smart move if you ask me.

Ahh, that would explain it. Deer territory issues. I was wondering if the deer in question was hip to this hunter routine -- sort of an evolutionary leap -- and decided he'd had enough.

Thanks for the post. Made my day!

While I haven’t seen anything that aggressive, the locals have demonstrated similar behaviors towards other animals and humans.

The video provides a revealing illustration of what is lurking just under the camouflage façade of the manly “hunter” when he's confronted.

ha ha ha

The video doesn't go to the end.

What finally happens to the guy? Does he manage to wrestle the deer, or does the deer get tired and walk away?

and it was pure extract at that, I guess the guy was not even a hunter either he was some sort of outdoor adventurist that got caught in natures midst.

and it was filmed in a pen, do some research Twwwaccy.

I used to have the whole story on that video but can't seem to find it. The guy who was attacked raised deer for deer attractants and he dressed up in camo and a bow in hand to show customers how effective his stuff was by walking up to the deer.....and got smacked

Posted on Thu, Oct. 20, 2005

RANCHO SANTA FE, Calif. - A man died after being attacked by a 6-foot-tall deer that he encountered in his back yard, officials said.

Ron Dudek stumbled onto the deer Sept. 25 when he went outside to pick tomatoes. The buck struck him in the face, ripping a hole in his cheek and ramming an antler into his mouth.

Dudek, the 73-year-old president of an electric company, died Monday of his injuries. The Medical Examiners Office said an autopsy revealed that the deer's blow caused a blood clot that went to his lungs and killed him.

"This was a startled deer that tried to get out any way it can and ended up hooking the victim," said Steve Martarano, a spokesman for the state Department of Fish and Game.

U.S. Department of Agriculture personnel located two bucks matching the description of the one that injured Dudek Wednesday night and shot them both. The San Diego County Veterinarian's office was testing the carcasses to determine whether the animals were diseased. The results were pending Thursday.

Some neighbors said the buck that gored Dudek had become increasingly bold in recent weeks. While other deer run when people approach, this one stood his ground, they said.

Dudek's widow, Joanne, said she and her husband of 54 years never feed the deer that came into their yard, which offers a panoramic view of a river canyon about 17 miles northwest of San Diego.

"He was my life," she said, looking out on the canyon.

The attack on Dudek was the third violent deer encounter reported in California during the last four weeks, Martarano said.

On Sept. 29, a deer pinned a man against his house and bit a chunk out of his wife's arm in Mendocino County in Northern California.

On Oct. 11, a deer killed one dog and attacked three others in Orinda, near Oakland.

But deer attacks are rare nationwide, said Larry Hawkins, a legislative and public affairs officer for the U.S. Department of Agriculture Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service.

A deer killed a 5-year-old boy in 1977 at Yosemite National Park, he said.

Whoa dude, 5 point penalty for blows below the belt.

Having said that, I've got a lot more respect for people who eat meat they took down themselves than the masses who eat factory/concentration camp raised meat (which I guess includes myself whenever I eat bacon at a restaurant).

I do work for a guy in El Cerrito, a little burb north of Berkeley hemmed in by the bay on one side and steep hills on the other. Deer frequently come down at night to forage. The hot springs resort I used to live at had a large deer population that all the new agers were charmed by. I used to juice and bottle carrot juice there for part of my income (good stuff, don't knock it til you've tried it) and I'd put the box full of the pulp out near the trailer where I made it which was essentially in the woods. Some of the young bucks would get pretty aggressive about the stuff which all the deer seemed to regard like fine candy. Never came near while I was placing it but I had to watch myself on that one.

Why would male deer scent be effective? Attracting does would not be of too much use. Do other males come around to do battle?
