Yep! But it was a truck manufacturer and a motorbike company that owned the rights.

This one is at the shop of one my customers, and it is immaculate and original with all documents. Including the documents of the Air Force Major who bought it and shipped it home! (as AF Majors will do)

BTW, according to the documents in the car, only 24 of this model are known to exist!

One sold at the 2006 Barrett-Jackson collector car auction this year for $27,000. Someone probably bought well on it. It was a 200 hp 289 cu.in. engine. The one I pictured is a 271 hp model 4 speed model. While not on the same plane as the Shelbys, I would think it's value to be in the upper 30's to mid 40s. The cool thing would be that it was German market car.

There aren't many 40 year old cars of any kind in existence that don't have rust issues, unless they were garaged and preserved. Or already restored, in which case they will have rust issues. Rust is just oxidation and can be dealt with, if it isn't too far along.

I've never tried to lift one by the floorboards, but I suppose that could be a problem if there is significant oxidation present. Actually it would cause problems if there was NO oxidation! Unibody cars should NEVER be lifted by the floorboards! Always use the suspension, rocker box or torque box jack points.

In Europe a car like that would not pass the national inspection. I have been to junkyard in Europe that are full of cars that have not been in accidents, but are rusted out and failed inspections. Some of the cars looked really good until you started to look close and saw that they were completely rotten.

I think we all know what he meant by picking it up by the floorboards. Many unibody cars have stamped steel frame sections welded to the underside of the floor pans that act as frame members. I have safely jacked up many cars this way. I think the point he was trying to make is that cars rust out in Iowa.
