found 4 15' bunds at a yunk-yard

Visited a junk-yard this morning and there was a 450sl with 4 chrome 15' bunds, they were pretty dirty but in decent state. One had some miner curb damage, but after a good clean up representable. The tires read 195/65R15, so I guess they are the real deal. Do SL rims fit my 300cd?

The R107, W123, W126 and W116 used similar/same offsets.

i have bundts on my sec which are different offset and rim width than those found on the 123s. it is not drastically different though. i would assume they will work on a 123 but might cause a bit of negative camber.

if you were interested in getting rid of them i would have some interest.

Those wheels are pretty rare. I believe they only came on the 450SEL 6.9. Someone posted a while back that new ones are back in production for $1100 each.

They're aftermarkets. They could possibly be factory wheels that someone had plated, but I'm 95% certain that they're aftermarket. I'm pretty sure real bundts also have the MB star stamped on the back....And they don't have anything stamped on the front side.

Regardless, the MB factory never produced chrome bundts of any size. They ALL left the factory painted silver.

Still a cool find though. Even aftermarket 15" bundts are very rare.

Would those 15" dramatically improve the ride quality of my 300CD, enough for me justify the money: ±$450 for new Michelin tires, restoring the rims...? My 14" tires are still in very good shape, so I'm not really in need for new ones.

I have 14" wheels off a '76 450SL on my 240D. No fitment issues.

The change to 15" wheels can make ride quality better, worse, or not change it. It depends on the sidewall height of the tire you use, with the construction of the tire also having a significant effect. If you keep the same overall tire height, you will be using a shorter sidewall to compensate and ride quality will probably not be as good, though handling on smooth roads will probably improve a bit.
