Butterball's first roadtrip

Against all advice (except my own), I embarked on a 1k trip from VA to IL to see my sister. As expected, the car performed flawlessly, and I'm here. Now a short little trip to WI to see a friend, and Tuesday it's back to VA. Just in time for another oil change. 16 hours on the road, and didn't see another 300D. Where are all you guys hiding??

"The best place to hide something is smack out in the open." Glad your trip went well and yes I agree not one D on the road?

Finished the trip, 1911 miles, average 68.7, max speed 90.7. I wish the cruise control worked, continually pushing the mech linkage is a strain after a while. Car continues to amaze me.

What was so amazing about it? You drove a well kept up Mercedes diesel on a long trip, on good American roads, and it performed well and didnt't let you down. Probably the car didn't wear YOU out either.

They are supposed to be reliable, and dependable. And that's what you got out of the trip. Just what you expected, and deserved. No surprises there!

What should amaze you is that you didn't see more cars like yours; these are great long distance haulers, and more people out to realize that, and be cruising in them

Very disappointed to not see more out there. In fact, I saw one other W123, and that was on a road right outside of my sister's subdivision. Nothing on the road, and it was over 25 hours of driving. I wasn't anticipating hitting 90 mph either. Lady in a Honda was pushing me, so I punched it to get around someone and get over, and looked at the GPS and was like, Holy cow, this car just keeps right on accelerating. I didn't want to take the car over 65 when I bought it, since it sounded like it was going to explode. Now knowing it'll do 90 on occasion, I'm not afraid of it grenading anytime soon.

That's really surprising that you saw no other 300D's...sometimes I'll see three or four between my house and work, which is 18 miles. Another car I often pass in the opposite direction is a nice lookin' finny....

I guess we will see fewer and fewer of them out as time goes on, and I suppose they will disappear in the east first, due to rust.

I've already knocked on wood for you so you make it back to VA. You'll be fine, I'm sure...but if it were me I probably would have waited to be back in VA before posting this!!
