The Humidor- Cigar Smokers Unite....

This thread is dedicated to the cigar smokers that are amoung us. What cigars do you enjoy smoking, where and when? I understand that this is a ritual with some people and the place and time are just as important to make the most of the experience. I can't smoke them but love it when my boyfriend fires up a nice Cohiba Siglo 1 and sips his scotch. Good cigar bar here in town is "Shelly's Backdoor" in washington D.C.

Now why can't you smoke them My wife will take a few drags when she is around when I have a Arturo Fuente Hemingway with a good single malt scotch, I prefer The Dalmore or Macallan 18. My favorite place is on the dock after a good day out in the Gulf of Mexico chasing Yellow Fin Tuna or Red Snapper. Usually while cooking what we have caught!! You gotta love South Louisiana

I quit smoking cigarettes 17 years ago and I am afraid if I inhaled a cigar I would be back to my old wanton ways....so I just have to be satisfied sitting next to my boyfriend as he fires em up...

I'm finished now

I'm finished with my Pleiades now so I can chat with you guys for a bit before I have to run off again.

I'm sure there must be some Macanudo fans on here. I like the milder smokes generally. And a wee dram of Scotch, of course.

I got a chance to visit the Davidoff store in NYC last week. Nat Shermans, too. Wow what fine cigar stores they are! Next trip I'm going to try and hit the Grand Havana Room. Anybody ever been there?

Had some Cohiba Lanceros and Monte Cristo's (forget the size/number) from Cuba. Smoked one of the Cohibas while drinking and I think my head finally stopped spinning after a day or so.

I'm still very new to the practice and have a lot to learn, it seems. They do go frightening well with scotch though.

Or perhaps I'm looking for another reason to drink more scotch. Not that I'd need one.

In fact, I should pour myself a Macallan right now...

Dawg!

Make those of us down here south of the border jealous, will you? It must be nice to live somewhere that doesn't have an embargo against Cuba.

I've had a few of those Cuban Cohibas and thought they were pretty good, but actually not that much better than a good Dominican or Nicaraguan cigar. Of course, it's possible some of them were fakes. There is a lot of that going on.

I've had plenty of Macallan, too. At least that's legal here.

Yeah, Cuba's a big vacation spot for Canadians and someone always brings back cigars - usually for someone else.

Hey, at least your liquor is cheap in the US! The Macallan costs me $80 odd bucks up here, vs. $40ish in the US. Swindle!!

I have an idea...I'll ship you Cuban cigars for Macallan....wait, is that illegal?

My brother married a Cuban ***** who's dad owns a BMW dealership in GA. I am suprised he hasn't been busted as many of those things as he brings into the country. I think everyone who test drives a BMW gets a stogie. I probably have over a hundred Cubans he has given me--Rey Del Mundos, H. Upmans, Flor de Cano, Rafael Gonzales, Partegas, Cohibas, MC's ect...., ect....I used to pretend I enjoyed them, but really don't. I generally smoke one on the back nine when I play golf, as much to keep the mosquitoes away as anything else. I will also take a few if I go on a canoe or fishing trip.

One thing I will say, is that I smoke them so irregularly (but know their value) so I am careful about storage. I had a Pelican case converted into a humidor, and it is better than any wooden humidor made.

Also, not that I would condone or recommend this, but a couple of real aficionados that I know say that there are only two trustworthy places that pride themselves on selling authentic Cubans at reasonable prices over the internet: Hong Kong and Cypress. FWIW.
