Exotic/unusual pets

Anybody have any? I've got a pair of Whites tree frogs AKA Australian Tree frogs. Not too exotic, but they are kinda fun.

I know someone with a ferret. I want to get a Lynx myself, no not an atari, or the domestic cats called lynx with funny ears, a real Siberian Lynx. First, I have to get a place to keep it though. I read they are real loyal if you get a kitten and raise it properly.

Bgast, my dad claimed to have had some of those tree frogs. I never actually saw them, but he would often comment on them while we were riding in his car. Do yours stink, too?

Had a pot bellied pig that turned out to be a beer belly one! She got up to 250 pounds. That's where I got the name powerpig. Meanest damn animal I've ever been around! She only liked my wife and no one else. Had her for around 7 years. Thank God she's gone!

Good one!

My pet story:

I had a LOT of reptiles when I lived in Florida (back in 92-95)....

I had a couple of Columbian Boas... One about 3 feet long, one about 4 1/2.

Numerous Ball Pythons... kind of boring, but they are nice mellow snakes for friends and kids to handle.

Several types of King Snakes and Rat snakes....

I had several monitor lizards, including Savannah monitors (usually mellow, and very nice colors), Nile Monitors (cool-looking, like mini-Komodo dragons, with an equally nasty disposition), and several types of Geckos... Leopard Geckos are VERY cool lizards to own, by the way....

I also owned a couple of Egyptian Uromastyx lizards, which are very neat looking desert lizards, with beige-colored skin, a yellowish spotted pattern on their backs, and very spiky tails. These were my favorite lizards by far... So mellow most of the time, and just very unusual and interesting-looking. I was so into them that I acquired another one about a year and a half ago, from the Georgia Reptile Rescue people...

Never got into Iguanas, really... They are so common, as far as reptiles go, and they're also very messy and high-maintenance.

I also had several different turtles.... both land and water turtles.

My favorite snake was the Burmese Python that I owned in Florida. The sun room on the back of the duplex where I lived in Ormond Beach was his room.

Why his own room, you ask?... Because he was 18 feet long and about 160+ pounds, that's why!!! He ate rabbits. Big ones. 2 or 3 every 10 days or so. My friends were very entertained by this. When it was time to feed him, 3 or 4 people would usually want to come over and have a "feed the snake" party. He was also a VERY mellow snake, and was completely handle-able (aside from weighing as much as a person!)

I acquired most of these animals through a friend of mine (at the time) who ran an exotic animal importing business. I became "surrogate dad" for the occasional animal who arrived sick, injured, dehydrated, etc.... and just ended up keeping a lot of them.

When I moved to Atlanta in late '95, I sold them all... I knew I was going to be touring a lot more, and it was just too much hassle. Most of them went to breeders and/or serious reptile collectors.

Now I just have the Uromastyx, and three Basset Hounds.

Mike

Hee, hee, hee!

Good one, Siduri. Well, which one is gone Power?

We used to have two pets at our house. That was before Newtron the wonder dog died. He wasn't unusual but he was unusually old. He lived to be almost nineteen. Now, we have only Chili. Chili is a Chinchilla and is the cutest little fella you could hope to see.

Not really. They will pee on you sometimes if pick them up, but even that doesn't really smell.

They sure sound exotic, Frank. What's a Saluki?

Howdy All,
Just dogs ;-) They are in the sighthound group along with Whippets and Greyhounds. They are a little slower than the Greys and Whips at about 30 to 35 mph. The strong suit of the Saluki is distance.
