Gonna Stop Reading the NYT

i've been reading the New York Times everyday for over 10 years. I read it now out of habit. Like coffee for some people. I feel incomplete without it.

However, I am gonna stop reading the newspaper altogether. In reality, everytime I read it, it just makes me sad. I'm all for being an informed adult but I don't need the added stress about thinking about things (politics/certain current events) I cannot control. I intentionally am being vague here as to what current events I am talking about. You fill it in. No need to start a political thread.

I'm gonna try being an uninformed adult (newpaper-wise) for a while. I'll still read trade journals of course. And I'll still open my mail.

There's always the sports section

Don't despair Jennifer, there's always sports. And the car ads, of cousre, for your next Mercedes. And the real estate section for when you need to buy a house with a bigger garage for all your MB's.

Dr. Andrew Weil, the bushy bearded doctor/nutritionist recommends people take "news fasts" now and then. I wish I had the discipline to do it.

The daily news had me feeling despondent and overwhelmed for a long time...makes you feel like the good things you normally enjoy will soon be over in a tragic fashion!

I had to stop watching the news/reading the paper/surfing the online press, etc. Unless the event is compelling (watercooler banter), I try to engage is more positive activities.

When I was in Jamaica about 30-40 years ago they had the best use for newspaper I have ever seen. They rolled gigantic wads of reefer into a sort of cone-shaped mass. Lighting it would be a fire and health hazard in Kahlifoahnia.

Hope that helps.

If someone calls and tells me there is a good article in the NYT, I'll go down to the end of the hallway in my building and retrieve a free one from the newspaper bin.

Bot- If you can remember that then you weren't really a participant.
