Surprise!!
This may be why men are nervous about marriage.
RELEASE: FRIDAY, JULY 21, 2006 SURPRISE! Dear Margo: I've dated my fiance for the last year and a half. She is 27, and I am 35. When I asked her to marry me, we were in her favorite restaurant. She didn't say yes right away because she said there was a secret she had to tell me to make sure that I still wanted to marry her. The secret was that she'd been in the adult entertainment business. I figured maybe she stripped while in college. She told me that was not it. We went back to her place, and she explained that she'd made some movies. She pulled out a tape and played it for me. I was totally shocked; my beautiful girlfriend was not what she appeared to be. We've made love many times and I could not believe what I was seeing. She was a transsexual. I got up and turned it off so hard I almost knocked the TV over. My girlfriend was crying, and through her tears tried to explain that she loved me and only did it for the money to pay for the reassignment surgery. I could not believe what I was hearing. I screamed at her and called her all kinds of names, which was totally out of character for me. I left and have not talked to her for the last two weeks. She's called several times and left e-mail messages to get together and talk. I am still in love with her. I miss her. But I feel that I have been lied to and deceived. Can we have a future together? -- Surprised and Deceived Dear Sur: Oh, my. Talk about sex, lies and videotape. My thoughts about this are perhaps counterintuitive, but here they are. No one would deny that there was lying and deceit. I am sympathetic, however, because I am sure this person had planned to tell you. When things accelerated, however, a good guess is that she just put it off. And note that she did not accept your proposal without 'fessing up. If you can get over the deception part, you might have a future. I think this because you say you still love and miss your romantic friend of a year and a half. It is so hard to find intellectual and sexual compatibility -- which you had apparently found. The key would be counseling to determine what the real issues are for you, and if you could overcome the misrepresentation and the baggage of her history. -- Margo, introspectively

I once car pooled with a transsexual woman, and as tolerant as I had supposed myself to becoming after living for 24 years in San Francisco, it was just too much...
Something did not feel right about the thought process that went on, and it was so far outside my experience that it was seriously creepy, so I know how this guy must have felt. The multicultural/transgender/gay/bi/lesbian/etc. ethos is sometimes difficult for a straight whitebread suburban raised kid to deal with.... Much as I love San Francisco, some parts I don't miss

Say the guy goes through with the marriage and his new "wifey" decides that the whole sex change thing was a mistake and wants to revert back?
Years ago I lived in the French Quarter for a while. I have seen these surgical wonders and I doubt that you could be intimate with one for a year and half without suspicions. If the girl wears bigger shoes than you it is time for a review. Hands? Adam's Apple? The list goes on. I did hear of a case where a man married another man and didn't know for a couple years. Gotta wonder. My better half knew the man's brother, true story, Green River, WY. |

THIS is certainly a wild thread for the forum!
Just when Mistress Heather seemed to be "pushing the envelope," along comes the "my girl friend/fiance used to be a man" thread!
Twitch, I wonder about that. I've always thought that if one looked close enough, a sex change would surely be obvious. I've never been in the position (pardon the pun) to verify that, though. I bet Siduri has photographed some of these "wonders of modern medicine." How 'bout it, Sid? If you look close, is it obvious that someone's sex has been changed? Actually, I find it very interesting. Howard Stern has had at least one of these folks on his show. If she/he was the best example of "gender reassignment," then nobody needs to worry about being fooled. If you want to see what I mean, go to howardstern.com and search for "Chavon."

On another note, are there any other operas that actually have a story that sounds interesting or is this the only one?

Only way to know for sure is a genetic test. You can change the exterior but the DNA tells all. They even have surgeries that replace the hymen for that "first time" feeling.
