Was Sir Anthony Hopkins' performance up to his usual high standards?

he was very convincing.

it piqued me enough to wonder if there is a book about munro. a factual one.

the movie says "based on true events" i think so it makes me wonder what might have been faked.

the film did have a pretty nice gritty realism about it. it certainly didnt glamorize anything about him except his passion for going fast on his old indian.

it did have him bedding several ladies in the movie, which is impressive at his age which appeared to be at least 70.

Fava beans and Chianti?

Did he enjoys some Fava beans and Chianti with that fast ride on the Indian and the ladies?

Seriously, though, I've been wanting to see that for a while, too. Thanks for mentioning it.

Tom:

It was a scary movie...scary because of its realism. I never saw it in the theater and, for the longest time, I couldn't sit through and watch the entire movie on video.

Yes, it was the movie with Jody Foster.

That's where the reference to fava beans and chianti comes from.

Tom W: Burt Munro - and the film about him - gave rise to endless comment down here. I've met a few who knew or met him The impression is of a man totally infatuated with speed, to the point of being a near 'nutter'.
Haven't seen the film myself yet, though opinions I've heard share your enthusiasm. 200mph is bloody fast, even today!.

I thoroughly enjoyed the film, as did my 11yr old daughter. One thing I liked about it was that his age was no impediment to the pursuit of his dream. I found a couple of websites after I saw the movie this spring that added to the details of his life.

I remember hearing about Bert when I was a kid, casting his own pistons and all....

I finally saw the movie (twice) and all the rumors and references to his life that I had heard talked about 30 yrs ago were there in the film .

Then I was in Invercargill for a few weeks and saw the bike and the bits from the shed , all bloody marvelous!!!!!!
