Cuban wish

Fidel is reportedly undergoing surgery and his brother in in charge.

Wouldn't it be nice if his brother stayed in charge, made nice-nice with the US, we start buying their suspected huge quantities of oil, and we get nice cigars, a great vacation spot and trading resumed?

Oh yeah, and go tell the mideast to "have fun".

I'm sure there is a bunch I'm missing, but it is a wish.
Besides, my wife has wanted to visit the homeland which she is descended from 1/2 way. I know 'it can be done' by going through Canada, but that's not part of my wish.

My grandparents used to vacation in Havana after the war. I was told of how nice it was, great fishing, and only an hour seaplane ride from Miami. I would like to see it return to how it was. Castro has kept that island in a headlock for far too long. Maybe the fifty-first state? Now theres an idea....

Bye bye beardy....

Apparently there are celebrations already going on in little Havana in Miami, people riding down the streets in their Escalades waving Cuban flags and signs "Abajo Fidel"

It could be ripe for a coup. Apparently to some people there he Fidel is an icon but to many others, he's a horrible despot. Too many good people voted with their feet (or innertubes) to make me believe otherwise.

There exists the real possibility of a coup, I would think. Cuba is ripe for democracy!!

Yeah-Ernesto, what say you? We're waiting!!

What? Americans can't go to Ireland? That's news to me...

Yes LG it is a nice sentiment. But there is too much baggage on both side of the Florida Channel...there would have to be major changes.

But hope springs eternal in the human breast.

Good luck with your travels to Ireland...

Don't worry, leave it to our fearless or should I say, clueless leader to "take him down". Did he not say "Bring it on"?

I still vote for making Mexico the 51st state and thus get rid of the illegal alien problem.

I have a bottle of California's finest champagne cooling in the garage frig, just waiting for the day when the bearded SOB dies...

For those of you who blame Castro's left turn, on the U.S. here are a couple of facts:

The U.S. was the first country in the world to recognize Castro's government.

The U.S. was the first country to grant diplomatic status to Castro's fledging government.

Some have theorized that Castro was co-opted by his brother Raul (a life-long Communist) and by Che (another life-long Communist).

The Cuban people have suffered for way too long under Castro's stranglehold.

And the U.S. has gone too long not being "friends" (or at least civil) with its closest neighbor.

One thing almost everyone can agree on is the almost universal affection that the Cuban people (on both sides) have for the U.S. and the American people.

The Cuban people, unlike people from other parts of the world, for the most part love the U.S. and the American people.

Let's hope that the vast reservoir of affection between the two people (regardless of official government positions) will help the two countries "re-unite."

Viva Cuba Libre....

Everyone down here is just looking for another reason to have a party....

I think that was all one big continuation of the Miami Heat championship parade.....

My father extremely anti-castro and unfortunately passed Sunday morning, he would have gotten inspired to hang around a little longer upon hearing the news of Castro's poor health and possible death.

Sorry to hear about tu Padre...

It is tough for men like him to end up buried in a strange land.

Que descanse en Paz.

My father was a journalist and once actually wrote an article in a paper, had it published and mailed it to the Presidential palace in Havana.

In the article he basically challenged Castro to a hand to hand duel. Calling him a coward and such......Gotta love the attitude I guess.

MAybe they'll meet in the afterlife!!!!

I am sure your father will be able to kick Castro's ass in the afterlife. Problem is, there are lots of people waiting in line to kick the bastard's ass. May be a long line.

Viva Cuba Libre...

Not much value as "vintage cars." They have all been bastardized in order to keep them running. Plus the rust in Cuba's wet and humid climate is just relentless.

Incidentally, Castro loves riding in big Benzes...
