Hows the W220 S600?

Ive found a great deal on a nice 2001 S600 (Black on Black of course ).Does anyone know if the W220 early S600's are good.I test drove one,but it was definetly in a rear accident (you could tell by the paint on the trunk). The interior seemed very nice, digital air conditioning controls in the rear, suede headliner, rear reclining seats...The W140 S600's are just very hard to find.I found one,but the price seems somewhat fair, but then a W220 S600 is also a little more updated for a little more. The W220 S600 is also Starmarked.Any opinions?

Check the coil packs for revision level

Those cars had major problems with the ignition coil packs. There are 2 of them (left & right) and they are quite expensive. I think they finally got the problem resolved but it will leave you on the side of the road if you have a bad one. You might want to have that checked before you buy!

Is that the only thing to worry about?
When I had my 2000 S500,it had an electrical problem. The guy who had the S600 that was in an accident told me its just because it was the first year they made the W220.This is also the first year they had a W220 S600.So is it better to go for a 2002 S600,or just steer clear and go for the W140 S600.

I wouldn't buy one simply because in 2003(I think thats the year) they got a massive HP boost via a pair of turbo's.

The twin turbo V12 is extremly fast.

Yes!
We took a brand new one to the drag strip in 2003 and it did a 12.2sec in the 1/4 mile. It outran my CLK55 Kleemann by 0.2 sec.

The S600 only had 2,000 or so miles on it. It was 100% stock on street tires.

Yeah, then talk to Brabus or Kleeman and they will bump the power levels even further!

Its like comparing a 44 magnum to a 50 BMG round. Sure the 44 is big but the BMG is on a whole other level.

My CLK55 Kleemann had 550HP. The thing about the S600 twin turbo is the TORQUE.

I think you will have to save it and run it on your computer to see the video. That's my car in the driveway at MB Autowerks.

Do a search in the tech forum about the 2001 S600. I remember this topic came up a few months ago and the consensus was to stay away from the '01-'02 V12 cars because the engine's cylinder deactivation system was proving to be very problematic (not to mention $$$$$ to fix!). If you are able to get an '03+ model, that is very much preferred. Those engines got rid of the cylinder deactivation system, and are proving to be very trouble-free.

Thats awesome!!

Also, I have the pleasure of seeing the Treynor in action. He goes to my local dragstrip every once in a while, and beats the snot out of those lil ricers with his S65. Its funny watching a boat beat out a little tin can.

That is wayyy awesome, I think I might take a closer look at the S600
