New Digital Camera...

Well, the time has come for me to leave the roots and go to college.

I have been lucky, as my dad has let me use his Canon Rebel SLR for ever now. And since I am leaving, he wants me to leave him his digital camera.

So now I am faced with a dilemma. I am going to buy a digital camera. I know alot, but the big question I have is is there a big difference between 4 and 5 megapixels?? Will I really be missing alot by going to 4 megapixels? Should I get a megapixel camera?

Anyways, that is my problem. The camera I want has either a 4 or 5 megapixel option.

Thx in advance.

I had a 3.2 MP camera. i bought a new 5.1 MP camera, however i shoot at the 3.2 mp setting. for normal shooting u don't really need all too much, its when u want to blow it up or take extremely detailed pictures will u need all that. if u want i can take a same picture at different settings for ya

The mega pixel issue is only one of the ones you need to think about. If you want to get some additional input, go to the following link and read away.

http://www.steves-digicams.com/default.htm

Typically, the question warrants a question, i.e. how large a print do you want to make? We have used a variety of digitals and the mega pixels (several other factors being equally if not more important) primarily limits the quality when you get into printing larger formats.

Too many people forget that the photos should be taken and preserved in a high setting and put on media storage before doing anything else. The greater the quantity of file data, the more you can do with the photo later. You can't build from a shallow base but you can reduce what you have. It never seems to amaze me when I go into PhotoShop or even Picasa2 (free download) or IrfanView what types of enhancements can be made if the file format and size have been considered.

You indicated you have been using a decent camera . . . probably already aware of the above. Happy shooting.
Steve
