how to keep birds off oak tree

There's an oak tree that hangs over our driveway such that our minivan is basically the newspaper lining of a birdcage. It's a city/legacy tree so I can't remove it. What can we do to keep birds off the tree? Are those electric owl things effective? Keeping birds off will also get rid of the late night and early morning racket. The racket comes from a number of trees but this one is closest to the bedrooms.

Ideally I'd like to replace the tree with something that doesn't rain sap on the cars. It takes some serous scrubbing to clean the windows if the sap stays on for more than a day. The city says we have to live with it. How do oak trees like used coolant? Kidding

Thanks,
Sixto
... stay tuned

get some chicken wire, and some wire that is pliable.. make lil sticks out of the wire and fasten them to the chicken wire.. wrap said chicken wire around the branches that the birds hang out on.. they wont land in the area since the lil sticks are in the way of their wings..disney does it and other things like it

What kind of birds? What kind of oak? Are the birds nesting or are they roosting? Is there other vegetation nearby? What is there food and water source.

All birds eventually acclimate to decoys and dummies. Then you're back to where you started. welcome to urban forestry.

You ever seen that documentary about the parrot guy in SF?

the birds belong in the tree. it's their natural habitat. the racket you refer to is birdsong. there are creatures other than you on this planet. the s**t on your minivan is just poetic justice.

Cut the limb off, dont tell anybody, seal the wound with something so the tree doesnt die.

Forge a permit if you're worried

I wish it were that simple. Neighborhood cats use the flowerbed just below the tree as a litterbox. Maybe if I put catnip in the branches...

We get that too. We're not complaining about that. What bothers us is more aptly called birdrap.

What kind of birds? Some birds will vacate (blue jays, for one) if you shoot a few and leave their carcusses laying around for a couple of days.

Build a carport under the tree, let the birds poop on the roof of that .
