SMART car?

Is anyone familiar with this new SMART Fortwo car that Daimler Chrysler has teamed up with Penske to produce. It is very small but there is something about it that I kinda like. www.smartusa.com . I hear they are supposed to be very affordable and great on fuel mileage. What do you all think?

Affordable is a bit relative. I believe that they will start around $17k which is quite a bit for the size. The current plan for the US market is only for the two door, two passenger model in gas. I would be interested in the four passenger with a diesel.

Financially, this has been a though car for DCX has it has yet to make a profit. Several months ago DCX almost axed the entire Smart Car group.

Actually, it's Swatch (Yes, the watch company) that got them to produce it.

I've test driven one of the ZAP converted models. They are cheap, plastic filled, cr@ppy tranny, slow, and unsafe. I'd NEVER think of buying one after seeing it in person.

If the sticker price is more than $13,000, it's not worth it.

I can not recall where I saw it but I somewhat remember reading that the car was suppose to start at $8,000.00 in US Dollars.
