Cars older then 1997 are mileage exempt,federal law,so,you can adjust the mileage to whatever number makes you happy and you feel it reflects the condition of the car...regardless what the Carfax report said(or not).Newer then 97' its up to 10000$ fine...that is why every year you find more and more "low miles" older Mercedes on ebay,older they get,looks like mileage is decreasing with every new owner.

My point is the car was owned by Enron founder Ken Lay, who had considerable difficulty reporting accurate numbers. I should have pointed that out initially.

How do you change the mileage on a digital gauge?Doesnt it report it on carfax though?

Ken Lay is such a snake, he would probably count reverse miles as negative mileage... and reimburse himself for those miles.
