I know on my HP, the sound driver cam with an app to change the room settings. I could set it to bathroom, and get the echo sound as you describe.

Does your laptop have such a program on it? When you go to sound and audio devices under ctrl panel, will it give you options to change these settings?

Hmmm. What sound card does your confuser have in it? Does the sound change if you plug a headphone into it?

no change with headphones and the only thing i see remotely involving sound card info is this "Realtek AC97 Audio"...

Ahhh, under the control panel does it have a Realtek audio controller? I had that same chipset on my old AMD64 rig, and I was able to set the type of room using that utility.
