Saw a Ford GT this afternoon

I saw a Ford GT this afternoon at a Ford dealership in Tyson's Corner. Has anybody here ever driven one? I've always thought they were just the coolest looking cars. Never saw one in person before, though.

I saw one on the road twice in Natchitoches, LA, a small town in the middle of nowhere. That is the most beautiful little car I have ever seen. And you should hear the engine when the driver taps the gas, O--M--G!

That ain't no whiney short-strockin', bubba. That thar's a torquing beast.

The steamroller; at the time nothing better in the whole world. As good looking today as 40 years ago.

i went up to monon, a very small town, maybe pop 600 north of lafayette, and looked at their red one about four months ago. i was talking to the fortysomething salesman and casually as i could asked about test driving it. he said "my dad has the keys". (i am not making this up). "sorry".

it was red. very very cool looking.

it is still there. i go by fairly often. imagine that a gt in monon!

A couple of the Ford dealers around here got them, and promptly marked them up $20k, which seems excessive. I could have sworn that a couple were advertised in the DP Registry for $180kish but maybe I'm mistaken.

Anyway looks like a really cool car, may be a fun car to own in 10 years when they are much more affordable.

BlackE55 drove one.

Personally I think anyone that spends $180,000 on a FORD needs their head examined.

I saw two in my local town car show a few weeks ago, parked about 1 block apart. After a few minutes of talking about different aspects of the car we started talking about the huge tires /wheels on it. He said he gets about 2,000 miles on a set of rear tires, and a little more than that on the front. I was shocked to hear that. They were some nice looking tires. Very soft rubber he said. He didn't mind the $500 apiece they cost, wasn't an issue to him. Gotta love those bottomless pockets.

True, since the local dealer wants $200k for a GT, what does a new F430 run?

After one year what would the F430 be worth vs the GT?

The f430's are in the $200K range and like all Ferraris will hold their value with pretty slow depreciation. I do think that the Ford will hold its value if it is kept in limited production, look at how much fools are paying for hemi's. In any case comparing a Ford to a Ferrari is like comparing Honda to MB.

The body?

What's the body made of, fiberglass? I forgot to check.

True its a bit crude, bit its a faster than the F430 as well. Although it certainly is an apple and oranges comparison.

it did not look either crude or cheap to me.

although the egine looked a lot like a ford truck engine, but after all that is the attraction of the ford gts isnt it? a dead simple engine?

i looked at a real ford gt mark IV last year at the elkart lake vintage races. it had a nascar big block side oiling 427 with two large four barrell carbs on it. it was anvil tough and powerful enuff!
